In a recent social media post, Ryan Reynolds hinted at Deadpool’s comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the release of Avengers: Doomsday. Deadpool first appeared on screen as the “Merc with a Mouth” in 2016’s film Deadpool, and its 2018 sequel were among the most successful installments in the X-Men franchise by 20th Century Fox. The 2024 release of Deadpool & Wolverine marked Deadpool’s entry into the MCU, and it reached even greater success levels. With this, Deadpool’s return to the MCU was almost certain, and Reynolds may have just offered a confirmation.
On August 12, 2025, I, a devoted cinema enthusiast, saw Ryan Reynolds post an image of the Avengers emblem on Instagram, which was featured prominently in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, unlike the blue hue that graced those films, this symbol was now painted bold red, hinting at its potential use for another MCU project. With Avengers: Doomsday currently being filmed, it’s not hard to imagine that this emblem could be tied to the Russo brothers’ upcoming blockbuster crossover event. Yet, Reynolds didn’t provide any insight into the significance of his post – no caption to spoil the surprise.
Previously, Reynolds posted the same emblem on Instagram a month before the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. Contrary to initial speculation, it was revealed that this symbol represented Cassandra Nova’s army of variants trapped in the Void at the End of Time, rather than an “Anarchist Avengers” team. However, Marvel did introduce a new superhero squad in Deadpool & Wolverine, consisting of Deadpool, Wolverine, Gambit, Elektra, Blade, X-23, and for a brief period, the Human Torch. As such, it’s possible that Deadpool adopted this emblem as a symbol for his own team ahead of his appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.
Ever since “Deadpool & Wolverine” set a record as the highest-grossing R-rated movie and marked the most thrilling Deadpool adventure yet, it’s been clear that Ryan Reynolds would reprise his role in the MCU. However, he hasn’t said much about when or where we can expect to see Deadpool again. He did confirm recently that he’s working on a script for a Deadpool and X-Men team-up movie, although Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced this project yet. Given that “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” are rumored to delve into various realities such as Earth 616, Earth 828, and the X-Men’s Earth 10005, these crossovers could provide a fitting opportunity for Deadpool to make his comeback.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Deadpool is bound to play a significant and recurring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), long after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars reboot the franchise into a unified timeline. Known as the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool is one of Marvel’s most beloved characters, and his official inclusion in the MCU opens up possibilities for him to interact with a diverse range of characters he previously couldn’t. Potential crossovers could materialize in the 2026 film Doomsday, where Deadpool might team up with the Avengers to confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, aiming to preserve the universe that he has tirelessly defended before.
