Sadie Sink instantly impressed viewers when she joined Stranger Things in its second season and seemed destined for great things. She truly shined in the show’s fourth season, especially in a now-famous scene, and is now starting to gain momentum in her film career.
Sink has already built an impressive film career, appearing in several independent movies, a critically acclaimed horror series, and even an Academy Award-winning film. Next year, 2026, promises to be a breakthrough year with a highly anticipated role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which could open doors to more opportunities within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s fascinating to look at the range of projects she’s been involved in so far.
A Sacrifice (2024)
Sadie Sink’s film A Sacrifice is one of her lesser-known and lowest-rated movies. Released in 2024, this psychological thriller features Sink acting alongside established stars Eric Bana and Sylvia Hoeks.
The story of A Sacrifice follows Ben Monroe, a psychologist in Berlin, as he investigates a cult following a mass suicide. At the same time, Ben is dealing with his daughter, Mazzy, who becomes involved with the city’s nightlife.
I was really drawn in by the premise of A Sacrifice, which is based on Nicholas Hogg’s book. It had so much potential! Sadly, it didn’t quite live up to the hype, and reviews weren’t great – it only scored 24% on Rotten Tomatoes, mostly because things felt a bit slow-moving. But honestly, I thought Sink was fantastic in it – they really delivered a strong performance.
O’Dessa (2025)

Sadie Sink’s newest film is called O’Dessa. It premiered at the South By Southwest Festival and was released on Hulu. The movie gives Sink a chance to showcase her singing ability – something she’s demonstrated before, having once played Annie on stage and earned a Tony Award nomination for her acting.
O’Dessa is a reimagining of the classic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, but set in a world after a major disaster. The story follows O’Dessa Galloway, played by Sink, a young woman from a farm who goes on a journey to recover a lost family treasure. During her travels, she finds love and must use her musical talent to rescue his soul.
The film features a strong cast, including Sadie Sink alongside Regina Hall, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Murray Bartlett. While O’Dessa didn’t receive great reviews overall, critics consistently praised Sink’s performance, noting she stood out as the best part of the movie.
Eli (2019)
Sadie Sink has become a popular horror movie star, and one role that helped launch her career was in the Netflix film Eli. Though she’s best known for Stranger Things, Eli is a smaller-scale supernatural horror film that really showcased her acting talent.
Eli tells the story of a young boy with a mysterious illness who’s sent to a special hospital in hopes of getting better. Strange, supernatural things start happening to him, but no one believes him except for a teenage girl named Haley, who decides to help.
Mary Sink delivers a strong performance as Haley, continuing to be a highlight of the film. She has good chemistry with the young lead, Charlie Shotwell, and the cast also features Lili Taylor and Kelly Reilly. While opinions varied, Eli is generally considered a decent addition to the supernatural horror genre.
The Glass Castle (2017)
Just before Sadie Sink became famous for her role in Stranger Things, she starred in a smaller, independent film alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names. The movie features Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, Sarah Snook, and Naomi Watts, and Sink played a younger version of Sarah Snook’s character.
The movie The Glass Castle is based on Jeannette Walls’ 2005 memoir of the same name, and tells the story of her unconventional upbringing in a family that often lived as squatters. The role of Jeannette’s sister, Lori, is played by two actresses, Snook and Sink, who portray her at different ages.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who will also direct Sink in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed this film. Like The Glass Castle, which received mixed reviews (currently at 53% on Rotten Tomatoes), Sink delivers a strong performance despite having a smaller part.
Chuck (2016)
Sadie Sink’s first movie role came more than a year before she became famous as Max Mayfield on Stranger Things. Unlike that show, the film, called Chuck, is a true story about a boxer named Chuck Wepner—a heavyweight fighter who was known for his bravery and willingness to take risks.
I was really surprised to see Liev Schreiber as the main character, Chuck, and the cast is fantastic – Elisabeth Moss and Naomi Watts both play his wives! Sadie Sink also shows up, and she’s incredible in a really intense scene. It’s a parent-teacher conference where Chuck arrives completely out of it on cocaine, and it’s a pivotal moment in the story. It’s a tough scene to watch, but Sadie and Liev really deliver.
Despite not being a box office success – earning less than $1 million – the film Chuck (released as The Bleeder in Ireland and the UK) is a surprisingly well-received movie, boasting an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also offered an early glimpse of Sadie Sink’s potential, even with a limited role.
Dear Zoe (2022)
By 2022, Sadie Sink began taking on more significant roles. In the movie Dear Zoe, she plays the main character and demonstrates her strong acting skills. The film, which is based on a 2005 novel of the same name, is a heartbreaking story about a teenage girl coping with the loss of her sister.
In the series, actress Sink portrays Tess DeNunzio, a teenager who goes to live with her father following a family tragedy. Tess feels responsible for the death of her little sister and also discovers her mother was having an affair. This leaves her navigating the challenges of adolescence while coping with immense grief and guilt.
I really enjoyed Dear Zoe, and from what I gathered, most critics did too. Everyone was talking about Sadie Sink and Theo Rossi – they had amazing chemistry as a father and daughter. Honestly, the movie felt like a real breakout moment for Sink, proving she absolutely has what it takes to lead a film.
The Whale (2022)
Sadie Sink’s most prominent film role to date is in The Whale. This drama, adapted from a 2012 play, was highly praised after its debut at the Venice Film Festival, with both Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink receiving significant attention for their performances.
In the film The Whale, Brendan Fraser plays Charlie, a deeply private and obese English teacher hoping to rebuild his relationship with his daughter (played by Sadie Sink) and find some peace before his health declines. Both Fraser and Sink give outstanding performances, earning Fraser the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Sadie Sink received a nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards for her performance in a film that sparked debate. While the movie as a whole didn’t receive overwhelmingly positive reviews, it’s worth watching for Sink’s incredibly powerful acting, especially in one particularly moving scene.
Fear Street: 1666 (2021)
It’s surprising more people aren’t discussing how great Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy is. While the fourth movie, released in 2025, didn’t do well, the original three films from 2021 were hugely popular and are some of the best horror movies made recently.
Sadie Sink didn’t appear in the first Fear Street movie, but she’s a major character in the next two. The final movie, Fear Street: 1666, goes back in time to the 1600s and focuses more on witchcraft than the slasher horror of the earlier films. Sink plays Constance, a young woman living in the 1600s.
Many fans think this is the strongest installment in the series, even though Sadie Sink has a less prominent role compared to the previous one. She still delivers a great performance, but the story doesn’t center around her character, and she isn’t involved when the action returns to the present day.
Fear Street: 1978 (2021)
While she’s not heavily featured in the first and third movies, the second Fear Street film really centers around Sadie Sink’s performance. The first movie focuses on a series of murders in 1994, and the second one features Ziggy Berman (Gillian Jacobs) recounting a similar, earlier attack that took place in 1978.
Sadie Sink stars as young Ziggy in this ’70s-style horror film, set at a summer camp, and she’s the character who ultimately survives. It’s a classic “final girl” role—the kind that has launched many famous actresses—and Sink absolutely shines. She and Emily Rudd, who plays her sister, have great chemistry and make a strong team on screen.
With an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 81% audience score, Fear Street: 1978 is considered one of Netflix’s top horror films. The movie has also become a standout role for Maya Hawke, solidifying her status as a talented and rising star.
