Sam Raimi Magic remake

We love Sam Raimi and his impressive collection of films! He’s known for the Spider-Man trilogy and the Evil Dead series, but he’s also directed a variety of other movies – from thrillers like A Simple Plan and westerns like The Quick and the Dead, to more unusual films like Crimewave. His latest, Send Help, was a success, and now he’s taking on something completely new: a remake of Magic.

The original film….

The 1978 horror film ‘Magic’ boasts a strong creative team and tells the story of a troubled ventriloquist whose sinister dummy, Fats, seems to have a life of its own. As the ventriloquist tries to reconnect with his old flame, things take a dark turn. The film stars Anthony Hopkins, Ann Margaret, and Burgess Meredith. Notably, the screenplay was adapted by William Goldman from his own novel, and the movie was directed by Richard Attenborough, who rarely worked in the horror genre, making it a unique and worthwhile watch.

Who’s behind the Sam Raimi Magic remake?

Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, known for writing films like Freddy vs. Jason and the Friday the 13th remake, as well as Send Help for Sam Raimi, have written the script for Raimi’s new take on Magic.

Fascinating facts….

When Anthony Hopkins first saw the doll, Fats, he was asked to take it home to practice with. But he became so disturbed by it that he called their ventriloquist consultant late at night, demanding someone retrieve the doll or he’d throw it into a canyon. Director Richard Attenborough actually had to go to Hopkins’ house to reassure him. It’s understandable, though – the doll’s lifeless eyes and fixed, unnatural grin would likely unsettle anyone, which is maybe why Amanda Holden is better suited to voice work.
