Sam Raimi’s New R-Rated Thriller Becomes His Second Horror Movie Ever To Pass Major Box Office Milestone

Send Help has scared up a major box office milestone.

The new horror film starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien follows two colleagues who are shipwrecked on a desert island. It’s directed by Sam Raimi, known for The Evil Dead, and has been well-received by critics, earning a 93% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is also doing well in theaters, having been the top-grossing film domestically for two weeks in a row.

According to Variety, the movie Send Help is expected to reach a total of $53.7 million worldwide by the end of its second weekend in theaters. Of that amount, approximately $35.8 million has been earned in the U.S. and Canada, with another $17.9 million coming from international showings.

If current projections hold, Send Help (2026) will be just the second horror film directed by Sam Raimi to earn over $50 million worldwide. The first was 2009’s Drag Me to Hell, which eventually made $91.4 million globally. Here’s a look at how all of Raimi’s horror movies have performed at the box office:

Title Worldwide Box Office
The Evil Dead (1981) $29.4 million
Evil Dead II (1987) $5.9 million
Army of Dakness (1993) $21.5 million
The Gift (2000) $44.6 million
