Matt Prokop is entering the new year with new legal troubles.
Former High School Musical 3 actor was arrested in Victoria, Texas, on December 24th. Authorities confirmed to TopMob News on January 10th that he is facing several charges, including possessing or distributing child pornography, according to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office.
The 35-year-old, who previously dated Sarah Hyland for almost five years before their split in 2014, is now facing new charges. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he’s been charged with resisting arrest and violating a protective order related to a 2024 case involving resisting arrest and assaulting a family member. He is currently being held on $117,500 bail, as reported by TopMob News.
TopMob News has reached out to Prokop for comment but has not heard back.
Actor Prokop, who has appeared in shows like Hannah Montana and Good Luck Charlie, and the movie Geek Charming alongside Sarah Hyland, has faced legal issues before. Hyland previously obtained a restraining order against him in 2014, as confirmed by her lawyer to TopMob News.
Court records show Sarah has accused her ex-partner, Matt, of both physical and verbal abuse throughout their relationship. She alleges one incident involved him pinning her against a car and choking her during a fight.
She told the court he held her so tightly she couldn’t breathe or talk, and she feared for her life.
Hyland said Julie Bowen, who played her mother on the ABC sitcom from 2009 to 2020, ultimately helped her navigate the breakup. She asked Bowen to be there when she ended things with her partner.
TopMob News reached out to Prokop’s reps at the time for comment but did not receive a response.
