The recent State of Play presentation began with a splash thanks to *Saros*, a new rogue-lite third-person shooter. It features unique gameplay elements like absorbing projectiles and reviving yourself, and Housemarque has released further details on the PlayStation Blog. While *Saros* got things started strong, the presentation concluded with a look at *Marvel’s Wolverine*.
So, good news for me and other gamers – the sequel is definitely being built in Unreal Engine 5, which isn’t a huge shock considering the first *Returnal* used Unreal Engine 4. They’re aiming for a smooth 60 FPS on the PS5, but they’ve said it’s still early days, so expect some tweaks, fixes, and improvements as they keep working on it. The gameplay trailer only showed off *one* of the many areas we’ll be exploring, and I’m excited to learn I’ll be using both Soltari weapons – like the Phosphorous Shotgun – *and* some seriously cool Carcosan tech to take down enemies!
The Carcosan Power Weapon is unique because it gains power by absorbing enemy fire with its Soltari Shield, and using it will have a strange effect on Arjun – we don’t know exactly what will happen yet. However, it’s incredibly powerful. The story of what occurred on the planet is revealed through Soltari Holograms, voice recordings, conversations with characters, and cinematic scenes.
Staying true to the atmosphere of *Returnal*, the game also features some strange and enigmatic story moments, and the developers at Housemarque plan to explore these further down the line.
Saros will be released on March 20, 2026, for PlayStation 5. The game’s development relied on Sony’s acquisition of the studio. You can find more information here.
