Saturday Night Live UK’s future confirmed by Sky

Sky has confirmed that Saturday Night Live UK will be back for an extended second season.

The popular British comedy show is coming back in September with 12 new episodes. That’s more than the first season, which originally started with six episodes but was later extended to eight.

Following a successful launch in March with good reviews and viewership, SNL UK has been renewed for another series.

The show, launched with a special event hosted by Tina Fey, attracted 528,000 viewers within its first week. While overnight ratings later decreased, the series remained popular online, generating over 86 million views on social media, according to Sky.

Lorne Michaels, the creator and executive producer of SNL, expressed his excitement about the show’s renewal. He praised the team’s work, noting its continuous improvement, and thanked Dana Strong and Sky for their support of SNL UK. He’s looking forward to the upcoming season.

Phil Edgar-Jones, head of original unscripted programming at Sky, noted that many were skeptical about bringing Saturday Night Live to the UK. However, thanks to Lorne Michaels, the experienced SNL production team, UTAS UK, and a talented cast and writing staff, SNL UK has become Sky’s most discussed show this year.

The show has become a real talking point, and we’re excited to bring it back this fall! Get ready for more fun and playful moments, broadcast live from London every Saturday night.

Sky has announced that the second season of SNL UK, consisting of 12 episodes, will premiere between autumn 2026 and early 2027. Like the American version, there will be breaks in the schedule to allow the cast and crew time off from filming.

Similar to the original Saturday Night Live in New York, the UK version also has a different celebrity host and live musical performance each week.

Joining Tina Fey as hosts for season 1 were Aimee Lou Wood, Nicola Coughlan, Jack Whitehall, Riz Ahmed, and Jamie Dornan.

Musical guests so far have been Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Jorja Smith, Foo Fighters and MEEK.

With only two weeks remaining in its first season, the show is being hosted by Hannah Waddingham, known for her role in Ted Lasso, and Ncuti Gatwa, star of Doctor Who.

This Saturday, Hannah Waddingham will perform with award-winning musician Myles Smith. Then, for the final episode of the season, Ncuti Gatwa will be joined by indie-pop artist Holly Humberstone.
