Savannah Guthrie No Longer Hosting Winter Olympics Amid Search for Mom

Hoda Kotb has decided to withdraw from co-hosting NBC’s coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony as she continues to search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie.

NBC Sports confirmed on February 3rd that Savannah Guthrie will not be attending the Olympics. She is prioritizing time with her family as they search for her mother. We extend our support to Savannah and her family during this challenging time.

The representative said they’ll be sharing more details about how they’ll cover the Opening Ceremony in the near future.

Savannah’s replacement will join Terry Gannon for the event.

Savannah recently shared that her 84-year-old mother had been reported missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona. She said her family, including her siblings Annie and Camron Guthrie, is working hard to bring their mother, Nancy, home safely.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that investigators had turned the home of the elderly man into a crime scene because of their findings.

Sheriff Chris Nanos explained to reporters on February 1st that while they don’t usually respond to incidents like this one, the details emerging from the house were deeply troubling. He noted that the initial description of the scene, combined with what deputies discovered, made this case particularly unusual.

Officials have acknowledged that Nancy, while facing age-related physical challenges and requiring regular medication, remains mentally alert. They have confirmed her disappearance is not connected to dementia.

During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated, “We’re certain she didn’t simply leave on her own. Evidence at the scene suggests something else happened.”

The sheriff also addressed why a homicide unit was brought to the crime scene. 

“This isn’t how we usually handle things,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide team is called out when someone dies, when there’s a body to investigate. In this case, we sent them based solely on the information the surveyors provided.”

He emphasized, “I hope we find her safe and sound, but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

I’ve always been a big fan of Savannah Guthrie, and I find her background so interesting! She actually started life quite far from where she is now – she was born in Melbourne, Australia. Her dad, Charles Guthrie, was working there at the time, but the family didn’t stay long. When she was just two years old, they moved to Tucson, Arizona, and that’s where she really grew up. It’s amazing to think about how different her life could have been if her dad hadn’t taken that job in Australia!

The Today show anchor was sixteen years old when her father passed away from a heart attack in 1988. She has often spoken fondly of him since then, including in 2014 when she was pregnant with her first child with her husband, Mike Feldman.

Savannah described her father as a man of surprising contrasts. He was strong and could be intimidating, but also incredibly loyal, gentle, and loving when it mattered most. People often said he had a vibrant personality that filled a room with energy; he was tall, affectionate, and had a great sense of humor.

She hoped their child would inherit not only Mike’s humor, calm nature, and kindness, but also the honesty and strong moral compass of her own father, who had passed away.

Savannah stayed close to her mother, Nancy, even while attending law school at Georgetown and moving for work to Washington, D.C., and then New York. Nancy has lived in Arizona for over 50 years.

Savannah described her mother, Nancy, as an incredible and admirable person when Nancy turned 70 in 2012. She told Today.com that her mom inspires everyone she meets, and is known for being intelligent, humorous, and having strong moral principles. Nancy also loves adventure and is always eager to try new things.

In 2015, Savannah took Nancy to Australia, showing her the hospital room where the famous NBC News journalist was born and their childhood home in Beaumaris.

Nancy shared on Today that she didn’t expect to ever return to Australia, but the recent trip was, in her words, “wonderful.”

“I’m amazed we managed to accomplish all of this in just three days,” Nancy said. Savannah added, “We really made the most of our time.”

Savannah enjoyed watching her mother with her children, telling Hoda Kotb on Today in 2018 that it was a deeply moving experience. She realized she was finally seeing the kind of mother her own mom had been with her, appreciating the simple, everyday moments of joy.

She observed that Nancy was wonderful with the children, and she realized she admired Nancy even more than before, appreciating her lively personality and unique qualities.

In 2022, when Nancy celebrated her 80th birthday, Savannah honored her mother on television, describing her as brave and full of life. She explained that Nancy faced incredible hardships with strength and without complaining, always maintaining her determination and strong belief. Savannah shared that her mother’s deep love, sacrifice, and unwavering confidence were the foundation for everything her children have achieved.

I was so worried when I heard Nancy was missing. It was February 1st, 2026, and she hadn’t been seen since the night before, last known to be at her home in Tucson. Everyone was hoping for her safe return.

Savannah spoke on February 2nd, sharing that her family appreciates all the support, thoughts, and prayers they’ve received. Their main priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.

She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts on the case and asked anyone with information to please reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Savannah’s brother, Camron, is a former military pilot who prefers to keep to himself. However, he appeared in some Instagram photos celebrating his sister’s 50th birthday in 2021.

Fifty years ago today feels like yesterday! My incredible husband, who always makes me feel so loved, and our precious children… it all started with my mom, Cameron, and Annie being there with us at the very beginning. I’m so grateful for all of them!

Savannah and Annie are very close, and Annie has been a frequent guest on Today ever since Savannah began co-hosting in 2012.

Savannah described her sister, Annie, as essential to her life, saying, ‘She’s always been there for me, my whole life.’ She shared this during a 2017 discussion about the strong connection she and Hoda have with their siblings.

Annie said they were “like the sun and the moon.” 

“Her sorrows are my sorrows,” Annie explained, “and her successes are my successes.”

Savannah described herself as outgoing and quick to speak, but she characterized Annie as someone who was considerate and took time to think things through.

Let’s talk about Savannah’s journey with love. After her marriage to Mark Orchard ended in divorce back in 2009 – they’d been married for four years – she thankfully found happiness again. She started a relationship with Michael Feldman, who works as a communications consultant, and it was a really positive turning point for her.

The couple got married in Tucson on March 15, 2014. Just two days later, Savannah announced she was expecting their first child, although wedding guests had already gotten a hint of the news during the celebration.

She was thrilled to be back on Today on March 17th, saying, “I feel fantastic! I’m just so happy to share that I’m done trying to hide my stomach.”

Savannah and Mike welcomed daughter Vale on Aug. 13, 2014. 

The Today show host described the baby as having blue eyes, a touch of blond hair, and incredibly chubby cheeks.

When Savannah was expecting, she shared on her blog that she and her husband liked unique baby names, describing them as a great way to start conversations.

Despite a fondness for unique baby names, Savannah and Mike chose to name their son, born on December 8, 2016, in honor of Savannah’s father who had passed away.

The mother of two shared in a video on Today a few days after Charles was born that she and Vale were overjoyed, which came as a huge relief.

Savannah has spoken openly about her difficulties trying to have another child, and calls her son, Charley, a “medical miracle.”

In a 2018 interview on Today, Savannah shared her parenting philosophy: she strives to be her best self as an example for her children, Vale and Charley. She believes that at home, authenticity is key – there’s no hiding who you are – so it’s important to focus on self-improvement and personal growth.
