Savannah Guthrie is coming back to Studio 1A.
I’m so relieved to hear that Nancy Guthrie, the mother of a journalist I admire, will be coming home! She went missing from her Arizona home nearly two months ago, and I’ve been following the story closely. It’s wonderful news that she’ll be appearing on the first hour of Today in early April – a real sign she’s on the mend and returning to us.
Hoda Kotb announced on March 27th, with Jenna Bush Hager, Dylan Dreyer, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker, that a beloved colleague is returning to Today. She shared that this person will begin working alongside Craig Melvin again starting Monday, April 6th.
I was so glad to see Hoda back on the show! She’s a dear friend and really stepped in to help when Savannah had to be in Arizona dealing with the incredibly difficult situation surrounding her mother’s abduction. Hoda had left the morning show earlier, in January of 2025, but she was a natural filling in while Savannah focused on what truly mattered.
Savannah explained her reasons for coming back to Today, saying it was a tough choice because the show is known for being so positive and upbeat.
During the second part of her interview, which aired on March 27th, she explained that she couldn’t pretend to be someone she wasn’t. However, she felt she had to return because her family was so important to her, and she believed it was what she was meant to do right now.
She stated she wanted her smile to be genuine. “I’ll express my happiness as a way of standing up for what I believe in,” she explained. “Being present and finding joy in life is my response, and I won’t hesitate to share if things aren’t joyful either.”
Throughout this difficult time, 54-year-old Guthrie has been thankful for the incredible support she’s received from her family – including her sister Annie Guthrie, brother-in-law Tomasso Cioni, and brother Camron Guthrie.
She shared that she was deeply touched by the outpouring of support she’d received, both from public figures and private individuals. She described the countless letters and messages as incredibly heartwarming.

Savannah has always relied on her mother for support, particularly after the passing of her father, Charles Guthrie.
She recounted on yesterday’s show that her father died when she was sixteen. It was a sudden loss, and she remembered her mother telling her in those first difficult days, ‘You need to take action and just get things done. Make a decision and then do it.’
She added, “I always remembered that, so I’m trying to decide and do.”
I’m following the case of Nancy’s disappearance closely, and I want to share everything I’ve learned about what happened and how the investigation is progressing. I’ll keep you updated with all the details as they become available.

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to the Pima County police.

Police confirmed to Today that Nancy, age 84, was reported missing by her family on February 1st. A friend noticed she hadn’t been at church that morning and let her family know, prompting them to search the property. When they couldn’t find her after about an hour, they contacted the authorities around noon.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained the first steps of the investigation, which involved detectives specializing in homicides, at the victim’s home.
It’s unusual for the sheriff to be involved in a situation like this, but what we’ve discovered inside the house is deeply troubling,” he explained to reporters on February 2nd. “This case was particularly striking due to the initial reports and what our team found while examining the scene.
“This isn’t how things usually work,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide team is called out when there’s a death, a body to investigate. In this case, we sent them based solely on what the surveyors reported.”

After looking into what happened, officials stated they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.
As a lifestyle expert who often speaks with local authorities, I can share that investigators have confirmed they are, in fact, dealing with a crime scene. They’re reaching out to the community for help, and are hopeful residents will, as they have in the past, step forward with any information that could assist in solving this case. They really value the support of the community and are confident someone knows something that could be key.
The sheriff pointed to Nancy’s difficulty walking – she couldn’t walk even a short distance on her own – as a key reason to suspect something wasn’t right with her disappearance.
As a lifestyle expert who often consults on sensitive cases, let me tell you, it’s clear to those of us looking at the evidence that she didn’t simply walk away on her own. The scene itself tells a story – there are details that strongly suggest she didn’t leave of her own volition. It’s a crucial point in understanding what happened.

The search for Nancy is ongoing, and officials are concerned because she needs daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman under his care is facing health problems and urgently needs medication. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.
We’re asking anyone with information about this – if you’ve seen or heard anything, please get in touch. Call 911. We want to avoid another tragedy and really need the public’s help.
Although Nancy has had some health issues with her body for a while, Nanos pointed out that she remains mentally sharp.
According to Dr. Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally sound and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s still very sharp and aware. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander off; her limited mobility is simply due to her age.
With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his hope that she will be found safe.
“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how difficult this time is for her family.
Speaking for my family, I want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and supportive messages we’ve received,” she shared on February 2nd during an interview with NBC’s morning show. “Our top priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.
She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the investigation and asked anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Once Savannah Guthrie learned her mother, Nancy, had been reported missing, her colleagues on the Today show immediately voiced their support publicly.
Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she is personally close to Nancy and expressed her affection for her.
She continued, saying they were thinking of Savannah and her family and sending their prayers to them all.
Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.
She felt the show truly showcased the community at its finest when it asked viewers to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department with any information related to the case, even if it seemed insignificant.
She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”
Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.
I was really worried to see that someone posted on Instagram on February 2nd asking for help finding Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy. They shared that Nancy was missing and asked anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona, and even included the phone number. It’s just heartbreaking, and I hope she’s found safe soon.
Oh my gosh, when I heard the news, my heart just broke! And then Hoda posted the sweetest thing on Instagram – a picture of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today set! It wasn’t a long message, just a red heart and praying hands emojis, but it said everything. It was so touching to see Hoda showing her support for Savannah, it just made me feel all the feels!

Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be concerned for their safety.
At a press conference on February 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that he didn’t believe there was an immediate danger, but emphasized that the investigation was ongoing and much work remained.
Savannah hasn’t been on the Today show since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local officials have been checking in with her to make sure she’s okay.
The sheriff confirmed they had spoken with her. She has a security team that has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, investigators now think the woman was likely taken from her home against her will, perhaps while she was sleeping. They are currently investigating the possibility that she was kidnapped.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.
In a recent Instagram post on February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing, “We believe in the power of prayer, in people coming together with love and hope, and in the goodness of humanity. Most importantly, we believe in God.”
Savannah continued, expressing gratitude for everyone’s prayers for her mother, Nancy, whom she described as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person. She asked for continued prayers, believing they would provide comfort and strength right now.
She added, “we need you.”
To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.
She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, “He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.” She added that this message is timeless and universal.
Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

As a lifestyle expert focused on safety and well-being, I can share that Sheriff Nanos has confirmed DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s home, which is now being treated as a crime scene. This is a serious development, and authorities are carefully analyzing the evidence.
We collected samples and are hoping they contain enough DNA to help us identify what we’re looking for, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.
At a press conference held two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos explained what happened leading up to her disappearance.
According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained in a press conference on February 5th.
The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t pay for a subscription. However, the representative assured her they were still working to recover the footage.
The sheriff explained that Nancy’s pacemaker app lost connection with her phone at 2:28 a.m. Later, at 11:56 a.m., her family found her missing, and they called 911 at 12:03 p.m. to report it to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
About ten minutes after that, he explained that when their patrol teams arrive at the scene, they immediately begin responding by deploying search and rescue, along with detectives from different units.

On February 4th, Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters they wrote to their mother and the people who might have taken her, asking them to bring Nancy home safely.
Look, as a family, we’re doing absolutely everything we can to navigate this incredibly difficult situation, and we are open to communication. But it’s a scary time, because things can be so easily twisted or faked online. Honestly, all we need – what we’re desperately hoping for – is solid proof that she’s safe and confirmation that whoever has her is willing to show us she’s alive.
She explained, ‘My mom is the center of our world and what we think of as home.’ She’s very frail and lives with constant pain, and unfortunately, she doesn’t have the medication she needs to manage it and improve her quality of life. It’s essential for her well-being and to help her avoid suffering.
The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”
We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication and need to establish a way to connect so we can begin to resolve this situation.
During a press conference on February 5th, FBI agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending fake texts as part of a scheme to profit from the situation, which authorities described as a complete fraud. They are also investigating a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ and are taking the threat very seriously. Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.
However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”

On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annie’s Arizona home as a routine step in the investigation, Savannah posted a new video on Instagram suggesting they had received what they’d asked for.
Speaking while holding hands with Camron and Annie, she said they received the message and understand its meaning. She pleaded for their mother’s return, explaining it was the only way they could feel at peace and celebrate with her.
And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”

On February 10th, investigators shared surveillance photos of a person they believe may be connected to the case.
I was so shocked when I saw the footage recovered from Nancy’s security camera. It clearly shows someone sneaking up to her house wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack. Then, unbelievably, they just punched the camera! Police had already said the camera was damaged when they got there, but seeing it happen was just awful.
For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been collaborating with private companies to find any lost, damaged, or hidden images and videos from Nancy Guthrie’s home. This effort included searching for data after recording devices were removed. They were successful in recovering video footage from data stored in the systems behind those devices, according to a statement shared with TopMob News.
“Working with our partners,” the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Two days after the FBI shared video of the person who went near Nancy’s house, investigators provided a description of the suspect.
According to the FBI’s Phoenix office, the suspect is a man around 5’9” to 5’10” tall with an average build. He was seen in a video wearing a black ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack that holds about 25 liters.
The FBI is now offering a $100,000 reward – up from $50,000 – for information that helps find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

After Nancy had been missing for over two weeks, Pima County Sheriff Nanos released a statement to explain who might be connected to the case.
In a statement on February 16th, authorities confirmed that the entire Guthrie family – including all siblings and their spouses – has been ruled out as suspects in this case. They have been fully cooperative and are considered victims themselves.

The gloves discovered close to Nancy’s house didn’t seem to connect with the rest of the evidence in the case, according to the police.
On March 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated to KVOA, the local NBC station, that investigators initially and strongly believed a pair of gloves found about two miles from the victim’s home belonged to a restaurant. This was nearly three weeks after the gloves – which contained DNA – were discovered.
Although some people noticed the gloves in the doorbell footage looked similar to those worn by the suspect, Nanos dismissed this as just a guess. They identified the glove’s owner – an employee at a local restaurant – and confirmed the gloves weren’t connected to the crime.
