After winning the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special with Vito Coppola, Scarlett Moffatt has explained why she probably won’t be on the regular series of the popular BBC show.
On Christmas Day, the dancers won after performing a Cha Cha to Cher’s “DJ Play a Christmas Song.” They earned a perfect 40 from the judges and also received the most votes from the studio audience.
Shortly before winning, Moffatt posted a touching video on Instagram for her fans. It included cherished childhood dance memories, plus a glimpse behind the scenes of her rehearsals and time on the Strictly Come Dancing show.
Moffatt shared that her experience as a dancer probably means she won’t be on the regular version of the show.
She admitted that her previous dance training as a child likely prevents her from competing on the regular Strictly show, making being included in the Christmas special incredibly meaningful to her.
I didn’t always have a great time at school, but dance was where I truly felt comfortable. It was where I connected with friends, felt my happiest, and could be myself.

As a long-time Strictly fan, I’ve noticed something interesting – they usually don’t cast people who are already really good dancers on the main show. It seems like they do that to keep things fair for everyone else! But it’s not a hard and fast rule, because we’ve definitely seen celebs with stage backgrounds compete – like Lewis Cope and Layton Williams, for example. They’ve had some theatre experience, but weren’t necessarily professional dancers, which seems to be the line they’re walking.
The former Gogglebox star shared how much she loved being on Strictly, saying that dancing on the Christmas special felt like a dream come true – something she’d always wished for but never thought would actually happen.
I’m incredibly thankful to be sharing this special moment with my family, friends, and everyone – including Vito – who is watching. This is a day I’ll remember and cherish forever.
Moffatt first became well-known as a cast member on the Channel 4 show Gogglebox, and then went on to win I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
Strictly Come Dancing will be back in 2026, but with new hosts. Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who have presented the show for many years, have decided to leave, and fans will have to wait to find out who will take their place.
