Given the recent success of the new Scream movies, it’s not surprising that Scary Movie is getting a reboot too. A trailer for the sixth installment in the series – which originally began in 2000 – has just been released.
Twenty-six years after escaping a masked killer who seems awfully familiar (Ghostface!), the stars of Scary Movie – Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall – are back in danger, and no horror franchise is safe from their satire. They’re joined by returning and new cast members to poke fun at the current obsession with reboots, remakes, sequels, prequels, and anything labeled a “legacy” story – especially those claiming to be the “final chapter.” Everything is fair game, no horror cliché is safe, and they’re taking aim at “cancel culture” itself.
The movie stars Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Damon Wayans Jr., along with Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, and Sydney Park.
Based on the trailer, the movie pokes fun at several horror franchises like Scream, Terrifier, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It also satirizes current cultural topics, including the use of pronouns, and references films like The Strangers, Weapons, and The Substance. We can expect even more targets for humor when the full movie is released.
At present no release date has been confirmed but we think its likely to be in the summer
