Scooter Braun Shares If He Inspired Taylor Swift Song “Vigilante S–t”

Scooter Braun isn’t leaving any blank space for rumors. 

The influential figure in music clarified years-long rumors suggesting that he and his former spouse, Yael Cohen, served as the basis for Taylor Swift’s 2022 track titled “Vigilante Sht.” This song narrates the tale of a compassionate artist, known as the “Cruel Summer” singer, who aids a wronged woman in exacting revenge on her malicious husband.

For Scooter, it’s crucial that the song isn’t built around his past issues with Yael, which arose after their separation in 2021, marking the end of their seven-year marriage.

The individual shared during a recent episode of the ‘Question Everything’ podcast on July 17th, “Yael and I converse daily.” He added, “My former wife is among my closest friends. Therefore, we both find humor in those situations.

In fact, Scooter (who has children Jagger, 9, Levi, 7, and Hart, 5 together with Yael) mentioned that he and his previous partner prefer not to be referred to as “former partners,” instead opting for a more neutral term.

He stated, “She is the mother of my kids.” To put it simply, she is my partner for life. After my divorce, I got a tattoo on my finger that reads ‘same team.’ This reflects that she and I are in this together forever. It’s our phrase, our bond.

Although others seemed to be fueling the rumor, Scooter made it clear that he never considered it pertained to us.

“Great strategy move,” the former manager added, “but no.”

In 2022, when the song “Vigilante St” was released, many fans presumed that it was inspired by Taylor’s prolonged dispute with Scooter. Notably, Scooter finalized his divorce from Yael in the same year and had been accused by the Grammy-winning artist of taking control over her career, following his company Ithaca Holdings purchasing her original label Big Machine Records in 2019. This acquisition ultimately gave him ownership of the masters for her first six albums. Three years later, he transferred the rights to Shamrock Capital.

In the second verse of her song “Midnights“, Taylor sings, “She demanded concrete evidence, so I supplied some for her.” “You’re curious about the source of that envelope she possesses now? / Now she acquires the house, the children, and the satisfaction / It seems like I’m in cahoots with your ex-wife, appearing as thick as thieves together.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but be in awe of Taylor’s journey. Though she hasn’t explicitly pointed out who inspired her song, it’s evident that her recent triumph in regaining ownership of her masters is a testament to her strength. It’s clear that this achievement wouldn’t have been possible if Scooter had been involved in the deal.

In her website announcement letter dated May 30, she expressed her deep appreciation towards Shamrock Capital, as they were the first to propose this opportunity to her. She found their approach in every interaction honest, equitable, and considerate. To them, it was a business transaction, but for her, it represented much more – her memories, sweat, handwriting, and years of dreams.

She added, “My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead.”
