Scream 7 brought the popular, self-aware slasher series back to the big screen, delivering more of the suspenseful action fans expect. This time, a new Ghostface terrorizes Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her family. The film marked a shift for the franchise by largely disregarding the events of the previous two movies and refocusing the story on Sidney.
Similar to previous Scream films, this installment featured multiple Ghostface killers, making the mystery even more complex. A key difference is that Sidney Prescott’s daughter is now the one in danger, mirroring her mother’s age during the original movie. Here’s a breakdown of all the spoilers for Scream 7.
Everyone Who Dies In Scream 7
Like all the Scream films, Scream 7 features several deaths. However, this installment takes things further with particularly shocking and graphic violence – even more so than previous movies. The filmmakers didn’t shy away from showing the gruesome details of the Ghostface killings, and that’s a major focus of the film.
Scream 7 Opens With Unconnected Kills
The movie starts with a seemingly random scene: a couple visiting a fake “murder house” designed to look exactly like Sidney Prescott’s childhood home. It features chalk outlines of bodies and even a robotic Ghostface meant to frighten the audience. But then, the real Ghostface shows up.
Ghostface murders Scott by stabbing him. While the trailer shows Madison (Michelle Randolph) tackling Ghostface with a knife, it doesn’t reveal that she survives only to be set on fire by Ghostface, who then burns the house down with her inside.
All Of Tatum Evans’ Friends Are Killed
Like all the Scream films, this one centers around Ghostface picking off young people, and the ways he does it are pretty varied – some kills are shockingly graphic, while others are almost played down. The story kicks off with a couple of deaths at the school’s theater, where Sidney’s daughter, Tatum, is involved with the drama club, which immediately makes pretty much everyone a suspect. It’s a classic whodunit setup!
Tatum witnesses the first two murders while in the dressing room. Ghostface kills her friend, Hannah, who was rehearsing with a flying harness, by brutally slamming her against a wall and then stabbing her. Another student, Aaron, was also killed with a deep cut to the throat.
Most of the students are killed at a bar after curfew while trying to determine who among them is the Ghostface killer. It turns out none of them are, as they are quickly killed off. At the bar, Tatum’s friend, Chloe, is attacked and fatally stabbed with a piece of broken glass.
Okay, so the death of Lucas was seriously intense. He was this teen totally into true crime, and Ghostface just relentlessly stabbed him. But it didn’t stop there – Ghostface actually lifted him and impaled his head on a tap handle! He was left hanging there, initially throwing up everything he’d had to drink, and then… well, a lot of blood just started pouring out. It was a really shocking and brutal moment.
In a tragic turn of events, Tatum’s friend Ben is killed defending her, stabbed multiple times by Ghostface in the deserted town. The movie also features several moments where it looks like characters die, only for them to survive – Mindy, Chad, and Mark all experience these near-death scares.
Who Were The 3 Ghostface Killers & How Did They Die?
Okay, so apparently there were three Ghostfaces in the new movie, Scream 7! It’s a little confusing figuring out who did the first couple of killings, and honestly, I don’t think the ‘main’ Ghostface was the one actually doing most of the work. It reminded me a lot of Scream 2 with Nancy Loomis – someone was pulling the strings and getting another person to do their dirty work, and that happened again here. It’s a really interesting twist!
The very first person revealed to be under the Ghostface mask was a man named Karl, who was a complete mystery to everyone. He was killed in a dramatic fashion when Gale Weathers drove into town and accidentally hit him with her car. Later, it was discovered that Karl was a patient who had escaped from a mental institution and had a history of murdering three women.
Gale and Sidney visited the mental institution and spoke with an attendant named Marco (Ethan Embry). He warned them that Karl was a dangerous patient and had befriended another patient who was only known as John Doe. Marco then shockingly revealed that John Doe was actually Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), one of the killers from the first movie.
This was a lie, as Stu had already died, and the second Ghostface was actually Marco. He was probably responsible for most of the murders at the bar and was present at the final confrontation, attempting to kidnap Tatum and kill Sidney. He ultimately fell after Tatum tripped him, and Sidney finished him with a gunshot to the head.
The primary Ghostface killer was revealed to be Jessica Bowden (Anna Camp), Sidney’s neighbor and Lucas’s mother. Like previous Ghostface killers, she proved incredibly resilient, making her difficult to stop. Ultimately, she met a dramatic and gruesome end when Sidney and Tatum shot her repeatedly in the face, a shocking scene that stood out as a memorable moment in the film.
Scream 7’s Movie Cameos Explained
A major distraction in the movie was the idea that Stu Macher, supposedly killed in the first film, was actually still alive. Despite Sidney and Gale believing he was dead and buried, the official records vanished, and the person who originally signed his death certificate had passed away. The reveal that Stu was actually communicating with Sidney via video call, and that it was Matthew Lillard playing him, was a significant twist.
Damian Lillard joined the cast of Scream 7 as part of a storyline that initially led fans to believe his character was still alive. Although the videos featuring him were deepfakes created by Marco, they allowed fans of the original film to see the return of the beloved villain.
When Sidney returned home, she discovered her daughter had been captured by the Ghostface killers. A video then played, featuring appearances by Laurie Metcalf, Scott Foley, and David Arquette – all digitally inserted using deepfake technology to resemble their previous characters.
Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin were the only returning characters from the new group of actors first seen in Scream 5 and Scream VI. Also, Mark Consuelos, known for hosting a daytime talk show, made a cameo appearance as a local TV host.
Biggest Spoilers And Reveals In Scream 7

Scream 7 didn’t offer any major shocks. Sidney Prescott is happily married to police officer Mark Evans and they have three children. While they briefly considered putting the youngest kids in danger, the movie wisely had them stay with family elsewhere. The biggest surprise was that Sidney’s daughter played a main role alongside the other leads.
Why These Ghostface Killers Targeted Sidney
As a huge Scream fan, one thing that’s always puzzled me is the ‘why’ behind each Ghostface killer’s motives. It’s never just random! In the second movie, it turned out to be Billy’s mom seeking revenge, and in the third, it was Sidney’s long-lost brother with a serious axe to grind. Then, the later films introduced this whole angle with obsessed fans of the Stab movies, and Scream VI brought us more classic revenge. With Scream 7, things got really interesting—and meta—diving even deeper into the layers of the story’s own history.
Inspired by the strength of Sidney Prescott in horror movies, Jessica Bowden sought to take control of her own life. She had been trapped in a deeply abusive marriage, enduring both physical and emotional torment. Ultimately, she defended herself, killing her husband to escape the abuse.
Jessica told Sidney that reading his autobiography gave her the courage to defend herself. But she was disappointed to later discover that new Ghostface killers had appeared in New York, and Sidney hadn’t come to assist in stopping them.
Jessica believed Sidney was losing her strength and was no longer at her peak, so she felt it was time for someone new to take charge – and she saw herself as that person. After experiencing a mental breakdown following her husband’s death, Jessica voluntarily admitted herself to a mental institution. It was there she met Karl and Marco and began to put her plan into action.
Sidney Reconciles Her Past & Her Family
Scream 7 focused on Sidney Prescott confronting her past trauma and wanting to raise her daughter to be resilient, much like she had to be. The film showed Sidney being overly protective of Tatum, and it wasn’t until the very end that she realized she hadn’t prepared her daughter to defend herself.
Fortunately, Tatum was resilient. Sidney revealed she’d named her daughter Rose, after her school friend Rose McGowan, because Tatum represented strength – a quality she wanted for her own child. However, Sidney was overprotective, and that nearly had tragic consequences. Ultimately, mother and daughter were able to build a strong connection.
Sidney reunited with Gale, who was more emotionally fragile than Sidney had ever seen her. Though Gale dramatically stepped in to defeat the first Ghostface, she’s now struggling with nerve damage in her hands and is deeply heartbroken by Dewey’s death.
Sidney agreed to the interview Gale had been hoping for, and even though a question about her children caused some tension, it ultimately brought them closer and helped them begin to heal. Sidney finally shared that she trusted Gale, seeing her as both an ally and a friend. It was a really important step forward for both of them.
Mindy And Chad Find Their Fame
As previously noted, Scream 7 largely disregarded the storylines of the previous two films, except for the death of Dewey. Only two of the newer characters – Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin, Randy Meeks’ niece and nephew – returned, and they’ve now survived Ghostface’s attacks three times.
As a fan, I really appreciated how this movie connected to the previous two, which everyone loved. And I loved seeing Gale pass the baton to Mindy – it’s great they’re both still part of the Scream universe, especially since Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera weren’t in Scream 7.
