Unlike many modern horror films, Scream 7 doesn’t have a scene after the credits. Instead, it includes a scene during the credits that might be important for the next movie, Scream 8. The Scream series didn’t usually tease future installments like this, as it began before post-credit scenes became common. However, the more recent films, including Scream 7, have started to hint at what’s to come.
The scene after the credits finishes the story of Scream 7, picking up right after the new Ghostface killers are unmasked and defeated. We see Mindy Meeks-Martin reporting live from the crime scene – with her brother Chad filming – and she keeps making mistakes. This is a funny payoff to a joke that runs throughout the movie, where Mindy expresses her desire to be like Gale Weathers. It also continues a tradition from Scream VI, which also featured a humorous post-credits scene with Mindy, where she questioned the need for them in horror films.
Mindy Should Take On An Even Bigger Role In Scream 8

Only Mindy and Chad are returning from the new group of four main characters in the seventh Scream movie. Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter, was let go after sharing her views on social media regarding Israel and Palestine, and Jenna Ortega (her sister, Tara) also won’t be back, reportedly due to a busy schedule. Their absence is definitely noticeable, and ideally, this movie would have continued their story, but things didn’t work out that way.
Despite not being used to their full potential, the twins are a bright spot in Scream 7, providing much of the film’s humor and clever commentary on horror movies. They’re among the best new characters introduced in recent installments, and the franchise should focus on developing them further, especially with an eye towards future films. To move beyond relying solely on Sidney Prescott’s story—something it briefly achieved with Sam—giving Mindy and Chad more significant roles would be a smart move.
The end credits scene could set up Mindy to become the new central figure, taking over from Gale. While Courteney Cox is always welcome, Gale’s story has largely run its course, and Scream 7 already handles Dewey’s death with sensitivity. Allowing Mindy and Chad to step into leading roles could be a fantastic way to deepen their involvement in Scream 8 and keep the series feeling innovative.
It’s still uncertain if it will actually happen, but a new Scream movie – likely Scream 8 – seems very probable. While it’s currently in the very early stages of planning, the success of Scream 7 almost guarantees another installment. As of now, Scream 7 has earned $100 million worldwide (with a production budget of $45 million) and had the biggest opening weekend of any film in the Scream series. Given that Paramount is looking for successful franchises, Scream isn’t going anywhere despite what critics say.
Scream 7 is now playing in theaters worldwide.
