We recently released a horror reimagining of a classic children’s character called Screamboat, which featured an early version of Mickey Mouse (originally known as Mortimer Mouse). The film was surprisingly successful, earning over £393,000 at the box office. Because of this success, we’re now making a sequel, and the first film even won the ‘Best Public Domain Resurrection’ award at the October 2025 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.
Director Steven LaMorte announced a new installment of his horror comedy film. He shared that the team really enjoyed making the first movie – especially putting a violent spin on beloved characters – and is excited to return to the world of ‘Screamboat’ for more small-scale thrills and chaos.
Development on the next installment is scheduled to start in 2026, and it looks like most of the original cast members who lived through the first movie will be back – though nothing is official yet. Minnie Mouse, who made a brief appearance at the end of the first film, will also be joining the cast. According to a recent announcement, the sequel promises to expand on the original’s story with even bigger and more over-the-top action and humor.
Interestingly, the first film earned over half of its total revenue in Russia, bringing in $192,000!
