Scrubs Misses Hulu U.S. Top 10 Halfway Through Season 1

After its debut, the show broke ABC’s viewership records. Despite this, it didn’t become a major success on streaming platforms.

After a 17-year hiatus following its eighth season, Scrubs returned with John Dorian, Chris Turk, and Elliott Reid reuniting at Sacred Heart Hospital. While the revival received excellent reviews and performed well on ABC, it didn’t gain much traction on streaming platforms. According to FlixPatrol, the show wasn’t appearing in Hulu’s charts even after only half of the first season aired.

Scrubs Is a Successful Revival

New episodes of Scrubs come out on ABC every Wednesday. They become available on Hulu and Disney+ internationally the next day. However, after Episode 4, “My Poker Face,” aired, the show didn’t make it into the top 10 most-watched programs on its streaming platforms.

Despite being available on traditional TV channels, the show appears to be doing well, suggesting a positive outlook. It’s currently ranking fifth on Disney+, but it recently hit number two in the UK and Ireland on March 15th.

The recent revival of Scrubs, often referred to as Season 10, attracted 11.36 million viewers across all platforms in its first five days, according to Disney’s data.

The show attracted 11.36 million viewers across all platforms, including its initial broadcast on ABC and streaming on Hulu and Disney+. This makes it the most-watched comedy episode and the highest-debuting comedy series on ABC streaming in over a year, since the premiere of Shifting Gear.

The show was also well-received by critics. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating with a 90% score from critics and a 94% audience score – even better than the original series, which averaged 83% from critics and 86% from audiences over its nine seasons.

Scrubs’ Future Is Encouraging

The revival of Scrubs reunited fans with beloved characters, though some have experienced significant life changes and still haven’t moved on from past relationships. JD returns to Sacred Heart, now as Chief of Medicine, and the show has the potential to continue indefinitely, perhaps even just to follow the ongoing, complicated romance between JD and Elliott.

The show’s creator recently shared their optimism about its future, saying they really enjoy working with the cast and crew. They expressed hope that the show will be renewed for additional seasons, stating everyone involved is keeping their fingers crossed.

Despite being in high demand with successful shows like Shrinking and Ted Lasso, plans are still moving forward with Season 2. Before the show’s return, Bill Lawrence hinted that Ken Jenkins, who plays Dr. Kelso, would reappear next season, explaining that scheduling didn’t allow for it this year.

Scrubs releases new episodes on Wednesdays on ABC.
