An initial snapshot from the upcoming Robin Hood television show by MGM+ is out now, offering viewers an enticing peek at Sean Bean portraying the Sheriff of Nottingham on screen.
In the visible scene, Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings actor is depicted grasping the hand of Eleanor of Aquitaine portrayed by Connie Nielsen, appearing to be in a grand dining setting.
The press release referred to the image as a sneak peek into the intense conflicts and crucial power dynamics that are central to this fresh retelling of the timeless story.
The upcoming series, initially unveiled in February, is a creation of showrunner John Glenn (from SEAL Team) and producer/director Jonathan English (known for Librarians: The Next Chapter). This series aims to deliver historical accuracy and deep psychological insights into the classic story.
Simultaneously, there’s an increased emphasis on the connection between Robin and Marian, portrayed by fresh face Jack Patten and established actress Lauren McQueen.
In addition to the main cast, the 10-episode series features Lydia Peckham from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Steven Waddington from The Trap, Marcus Fraser from Foundation, Angus Castle-Doughty from Shadow and Bone, and Henry Rowley.
Initially, Bean’s fresh portrayal of the iconic villain was characterized as a political leader, a master tactician, and a constructor of Nottingham city itself. This character wields power with a firm grip, not due to cruelty, but from an unwavering conviction that the Norman interpretation of law should be upheld.

It’s worth noting that the upcoming Robin Hood adaptation isn’t the sole fresh interpretation of the legend approaching screens soon. Actors Jodie Comer and Hugh Jackman will be starring in a movie called The Death of Robin Hood, penned and helmed by Michael Sarnoski, who is known for A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig.
2025 saw an early start in production for that particular rendition of the tale, and it boasts a particularly illustrious ensemble, as confirmed actors like Bill Skarsgård, Noah Jupe, and Murray Bartlett will take on significant roles.
The start date for the MGM+ series isn’t confirmed just yet, but it’s expected to air this year itself. Keep an eye out for more details as they come in.
