With more and more video games being turned into movies and shows, the new trailer for Sekiro: No Defeat shows that animation can be just as effective – or even better – than live-action adaptations.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice initially received varied reactions due to its unusual combat, but it went on to win numerous awards in 2019 and is now considered one of the best action games of all time.
The game wasn’t just fun to play; its detailed world and compelling characters really drew people in. So, it wasn’t a shock when an anime series based on the game was announced at Gamescom 2025 – fans were excited, but it was expected.
A new trailer has been released, offering fans a better view of the animation and hinting at some of the story’s most exciting battles.

Seriously, as a FromSoftware fan, I keep rewatching this trailer just for the fight between Wolf and Genichiro on top of Ashina Castle. It’s easily one of their most memorable battles, and it looks absolutely incredible every time.
The series also offers exciting moments featuring Wolf battling opponents like Gyobu Masataka Oniwa, Owl, and the monks of Senpou Temple, all brought to life with its unique and gorgeous hand-drawn animation.
Director Kenichi Kutsuna believes that using traditional hand-drawn 2D animation allows for a uniquely beautiful and emotionally powerful style of action, going beyond just being visually impressive.
In a 2025 announcement about the anime, he stated, “When adapting the stunning game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, I focused all my energy on making this anime visually spectacular.”
If you’ve been a fan of ‘Sekiro’ for years, or if you’re discovering it through this anime, we think you’ll really enjoy it and be left with a lasting impression. We hope you look forward to watching!

Elden Ring isn’t the only FromSoftware game getting a TV or movie adaptation; Alex Garland is also working on a live-action version of the game.
This isn’t the only big game getting an anime series, as two Death Stranding anime are also currently being made.
The animation studio Qzil.la is creating Sekiro: No Defeat, which is expected to be available on Crunchyroll sometime in 2026.
