A small group of social media users predicted Ghost of Yotei would flop, but they were proven wrong. The Sucker Punch sequel has actually been very successful.
A small but outspoken group of people who spend a lot of time online were upset about the main character in the new release, and also about some internal issues at the PlayStation development studio.
Despite talk of potential boycotts, the game launched successfully, ranking fourth in overall sales for September, according to Circana’s data.
Sales figures are current as of October 4th, covering only the first few days of release. Analyst Mat Piscatella notes that the game is performing at a similar pace to its previous title, Ghost of Tsushima.
Even though the previous game had a bigger launch audience on PlayStation 4, released during peak pandemic conditions and at a lower price, we believe Sony will be pleased with these sales figures.
The PlayStation 5 saw a 10% jump in sales compared to August, even with its recent price increase. However, it still wasn’t enough to outsell the newly released Switch 2.
Borderlands 4 topped the sales charts last month, earning more money in its first month than any other game in the Borderlands series.
Survival horror game Silent Hill F debuted at number seven, and the remastered strategy RPG Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles climbed to ninth place.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger also performed well, landing at number 13, and capped off a strong month for new games from Japan.
