Sequel to Hit 2024 PS5 Exclusive Will Likely Launch Day One for Xbox & Switch 2

Xbox is shifting away from having games that are only playable on their consoles, but Nintendo and PlayStation are still focused on exclusives. Nintendo continues to release its popular games only on Nintendo systems, and PlayStation has a strong lineup of exclusive titles, including recent hits like the 2024 action game Stellar Blade. However, it appears the sequel to Stellar Blade might be available on Xbox and potentially the new Switch 2 when it comes out.

Originally released on PlayStation 5 in 2024, Stellar Blade became available on Steam in mid-2025 and received very positive reviews. Following the success of the first game, its developer, Shift Up, started working on a sequel and plans to release the original on more platforms. Now, Shift Up appears ready to officially announce Stellar Blade 2. They’ve indicated a reveal is coming in 2026 and have confirmed they will self-publish the sequel, ending their partnership with PlayStation. This means the next Stellar Blade game might launch on a wider range of platforms.

Multiplatform Release Likely for Stellar Blade 2

Developer Shift Up recently shared updates on Stellar Blade 2 in its 2026 earnings report. The report covered the company’s first quarter performance and future goals, including plans for its live service game, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, which is approaching its 4-year anniversary. It also provided details about the future of the original Stellar Blade game and the highly anticipated sequel.

Shift Up, the studio behind Stellar Blade, has been discussing bringing the game to more platforms than just PlayStation 5 and PC. Their recent financial report confirms these plans, stating they are “actively exploring further platform expansions.” This likely includes bringing Stellar Blade to Xbox Series X|S and possibly the upcoming Switch 2, as the game isn’t currently available on either of those systems.

Shift Up is working on growing the player base for the original Stellar Blade while also making good progress on Stellar Blade 2. They plan to share details about the sequel before the end of the year. A major change for the next game is that Shift Up will publish it themselves, meaning PlayStation won’t be the publisher. This significantly increases the chance that Stellar Blade 2 will be available on platforms other than PlayStation when it launches.

Considering Shift Up’s desire to expand the reach of the first Stellar Blade, it’s logical that the sequel could appear on multiple platforms. Moving away from PlayStation as the sole publisher also means there’s less pressure to make the new game exclusive to the PS5 at launch. This likely means Stellar Blade fans on Steam will be able to play the sequel when it first comes out, and it could even bring the game to other consoles right from the beginning. That’s great news for sci-fi fans who haven’t been able to experience this increasingly popular series, as it’s been largely limited to PlayStation players until now.
