Serena Williams, Venus Williams Set Doubles Return at Wimbledon 2026

The pair will be back at Wimbledon, having received wild card entries to compete in the women’s doubles tournament beginning July 2nd.

Serena and Venus Williams will team up for a doubles match at Wimbledon for the first time since 2016, when they won the championship. They previously defeated Tímea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova in the final. Throughout their careers, the sisters have won the Wimbledon doubles title six times, with their first victory coming in 2000.

Serena Williams’ upcoming appearance at Wimbledon is a significant moment in her comeback to tennis, which she first revealed on June 1st.

Serena Williams playfully announced on Instagram that she’s getting a new phone number. She made the joke after news spread about her recent announcement, referencing her two daughters, eight-year-old Olympia and two-year-old Adira, who she shares with husband Alexis Ohanian.

I was so excited to see her back on court! Before Wimbledon, she teamed up with Victoria Mboko for a doubles tournament at Queen’s Club. They had a fantastic start, winning their first match easily in straight sets, but sadly Victoria got injured and they had to pull out of the competition. It was disappointing, but I’m still rooting for her!

I was so thrilled to see Venus back on the court in July 2025 after a well-deserved break of over a year! While her return to the U.S. Open later that year—her first time playing there since 2023—ended in a loss to Karolína Muchová, she was incredibly positive about how her game was developing, and I couldn’t agree more. She’s a true inspiration!

Venus admitted she started slowly in the game, but didn’t see it as a negative. She explained she hadn’t played many matches recently and was still getting her game back on track. While she didn’t win, she was pleased with her performance.

Before returning to competition now, Venus, 45, and Serena, 44, last played together in doubles at the 2022 U.S. Open, but they lost in the first round. Also in 2022, Serena decided to take a break from tennis to spend more time with her family and pursue her work with a venture capital firm, which was a tough choice for her.

In an interview with Vogue in August 2022, she reflected that she felt capable of winning over thirty Grand Slam titles. She acknowledged past shortcomings, saying, ‘It’s easy to think about what could have been, but I didn’t always perform at my best.’ However, she expressed pride in her 23 Grand Slam wins, calling it an amazing achievement. Ultimately, she stated that now she prioritizes growing her family over continuing to add to her tennis accomplishments.
