Seth Rogen is keeping his jokes on the page.
Okay, so *The Studio* just absolutely *swept* the Emmys this year – thirteen awards! It was insane! And after accepting all the accolades, one of the creators finally explained something that’s been driving me crazy. Everyone kept forgetting to thank Sal Saperstein in their speeches! It was a whole running joke based on that hilarious episode where they dealt with the Golden Globes, and Ike Barinholtz is *genius* as Sal, so it was just… a thing. Apparently, it was intentional! They wanted to keep the bit going, but honestly, I was starting to think they actually *forgot* about Ike! So glad they addressed it, though. It just proves how much detail they put into everything!
After the award show on September 14th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Seth explained to reporters (as shared on social media) that the joke felt personal. He added, “It just feels strange to talk about your own joke.”
The episode centers around studio executive Matt Remick (played by Seth), who is upset that his colleague, Sal, received so much praise in the acceptance speeches of the show’s stars. Even Zoë Kravitz, who appeared as herself in the episode, thanked Sal.
The 43-year-old jokingly said they were hoping Jack Thorne, who co-created *Adolescence*, would be the one to do it, but he wasn’t available.
Although Seth didn’t mention Sal in any of his four acceptance speeches, he confessed to feeling uncomfortable by the time he accepted his third award. He’d already won trophies for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, as well as Best Writing and Best Directing for a Comedy Series.
He said onstage, with a laugh, “This is starting to feel a little awkward! Seriously, I’m really grateful. I want to be genuine here: If you watched and enjoyed our show, and especially if you voted for us, thank you so much.”
Although nominated for nine Emmys throughout their career, this year was the first time the former *Freaks and Geeks* star actually won one.
He admitted he was surprisingly thrilled, saying, “It’s incredibly humbling to be here with everyone – these are the people I admire most. I feel so lucky to work alongside them every day, and it’s a real honor.”
And to commemorate the special milestone, Seth made a hilarious reference to an old memory.
He admitted he was completely shocked to win, explaining he hadn’t prepared any acceptance speech. ‘I’ve never won an award before,’ he shared. ‘Actually, the closest I ever got was buying a used bowling trophy at a yard sale – and my parents thought that was a great idea!’
