We at Shacknews are big fans of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. It was a standout game for us in 2024 thanks to its immersive open world and engaging combat, and it just kept improving in 2025. A steady stream of free updates addressed everything from minor bugs and quality-of-life improvements to major additions like the ‘A Life’ expansion and new content. While not perfect, GSC Game World’s commitment to enhancing the STALKER 2 experience kept us hooked all year long.
In early 2025, GSC prioritized fixing bugs and improving the overall quality of STALKER 2. While the game is already quite large and runs well, the team wanted to make it even better. They focused on things like how enemies and characters act, how loot is distributed, and other details to enhance the core gameplay experience.
As a huge fan, I loved how they kept adding content throughout the year with those big patches! The Stories Untold update was a standout – so many new weapons and missions kept me hooked for hours. They even gave us a new safe haven in the Burnt Forest, which was awesome. Before that, Update 1.7 really changed things up by making the world feel more alive with how NPCs and enemies moved around. It was cool watching factions fight for territory while I was exploring. Plus, they added a super challenging difficulty and this Expedition Mode where you couldn’t save – talk about intense! It really pushed my skills to the limit.
The game received numerous free updates that significantly improved it, making STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl even better than before. This constant improvement made it a clear winner for the Shacknews team, earning it the title of Most Improved Game of 2025.
