As a huge horror fan, I’ve been following the buzz around *Shelby Oaks* for a while now. It became a massive Kickstarter success – seriously, over 4,500 people backed it! – and it’s got Mike Flanagan, the guy behind *Doctor Sleep* and *Midnight Mass*, as an executive producer. Now, the trailer’s finally dropped, and I’m so excited to get our first real look at what this film is all about.
The movie centers on a woman’s increasingly obsessive hunt for her missing sister, fueled by the growing suspicion that a childhood imaginary demon was actually real.
Chris Stuckmann’s first feature film, *Shelby Oaks*, is a striking horror movie that immediately establishes him as a talented new filmmaker. Featuring strong visuals and a consistently suspenseful atmosphere, the film – starring Camille Sullivan, Brendan Sexton III, and Michael Beach – offers a truly unique and frightening experience, breaking away from typical horror tropes to create a deeply immersive story.
This film’s Kickstarter campaign was a huge success, reaching its $250,000 goal within just one day. It quickly surpassed further funding milestones, hitting $600,000 with two weeks left and eventually reaching $1,000,000. After a month, the campaign closed with a total of $1,390,845 pledged by 14,720 backers, making it the highest-funded horror film ever on Kickstarter. Eight months later, after NEON acquired the film, they invested over $1 million in three days of additional filming. They felt the original script deserved some particularly graphic scenes that weren’t possible with the initial budget, and wanted to give the director, Stuckmann, the chance to film them.
Made by and for horror enthusiasts, *Shelby Oaks* is the horror film you won’t want to miss this fall.
Shelby Oaks will be in UK and Irish cinemas from 29th October
