Following the release of a fake trailer for Shenmue 4 – which the developers of Shenmue 3, YS Net, confirmed was not official – the person who created it has issued an apology. According to IGN, the creator, known as JustAFan1, explained they weren’t trying to deceive anyone, but were motivated by their passion for the Shenmue series.
To apologize for the fake Shenmue 4 trailer, JustAFan1 shared an updated version of it online, proving they were the creator. This new version included the original footage with added music, plus a message of apology.
In a post on the Shenmue Dojo forums, they clarified that rumors about the situation being partially true are false. They wanted to make it clear that it’s not true at all.
I understand many of you are disappointed, and it might seem like I’ve ruined your expectations. But please believe this wasn’t done with bad intentions – it came from my passion for Shenmue. I recognize I handled things poorly, and I sincerely apologize. I’m hoping all the recent publicity will show investors that Shenmue still has potential and can be profitable with the right approach.
The trailer included a longer apology explaining that its creator is just a fan of the Shenmue series and has no connection to the game’s developer, YS Net. The apology stated, “I want to be very clear: I’m simply a fan and have no professional or personal relationship with YS Net, nor have I ever had one.” It went on to say that releasing the trailer as if it were official behind-the-scenes footage was a mistake, and the creator takes full responsibility.
JustAFan1 explained that the video’s purpose was to show strong interest and excitement from the community for a new installment in the game series. They clarified they had no intention of harming Ys Net, the game’s brand, or its fans, and simply wanted to support the series and encourage its future development, not cause any problems or upset anyone.
I wanted a good result, but the way I went about it was wrong and dishonest. I sincerely apologize for spreading false information and for the harm it caused.
So, YS Net just put out a statement about that fake Shenmue 4 trailer, and basically said they had absolutely nothing to do with it. They’re also upset about the trailer using copyrighted stuff, and they have the right to sue over it. Honestly, I’m curious if they will actually sue, especially now that the person who made the trailer has apologized. It’s a tricky situation, and I’m hoping it all gets resolved quickly!
We’re actively working with everyone involved and getting ready to take steps to address this, which may include legal options. We deeply regret any confusion this has caused our fans and partners. We’re committed to sharing correct information and appreciate your patience and support.
Currently, Shenmue 3 Enhanced is planned to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo consoles. Players who already own the original version on PS4 or PC will be able to upgrade. A specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
