This year alone, we’ve gotten two new TV shows based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories: Prime Video’s ‘Young Sherlock’ and the second season of CBS’ ‘Watson’.
A new show, “The Death of Sherlock Holmes,” is coming to Sky, with Rafe Spall playing the iconic detective.
A new movie or show about Sherlock Holmes is in development, but this one will center around his greatest enemy, James Moriarty.
I’m really excited about this new series, tentatively titled ‘Moriarty’! It’s coming from some fantastic production companies – Fremantle and Archery Pictures, who’ve both done amazing work. The writing team is also top-notch; Chris Cornwell, who’s worked on shows like ‘A Discovery of Witches,’ and Oliver Lansley, known for ‘Flack,’ are teaming up to bring the story to life. I have high hopes for this one!
According to Deadline, the creators of the upcoming series describe it as a fresh take on the classic crime drama, centered around the most well-known villain in detective stories.

The series follows Moriarty, a criminal psychology professor at Durham University. Unbeknownst to most, he secretly orchestrates elaborate crimes throughout northern England.
When a new criminal threatens Moriarty’s criminal network, he’ll be forced into an unlikely alliance: working with the police as a consultant. He plans to use the legal system to destroy his enemy, all while keeping his own identity a secret from law enforcement.
Working alongside the reserved Detective Imogen Burrows from Yorkshire, they’ll make a powerful duo. However, Moriarty will quickly discover that the true danger isn’t the criminal group he’s taking down.
The series hasn’t announced who will play Moriarty yet, but the actor chosen will be adding to a list of talented performers who have taken on the role, including Jared Harris, Andrew Scott, and Dónal Finn.

Kris Thykier, founder of Archery Pictures, announced they’re excited to partner with Fremantle to develop a new series based on the world of Sherlock Holmes. Created by Chris Cornwell, the show, titled ‘Moriarty,’ will explore the mind of a criminal mastermind, blending suspenseful thrills with a dark and intriguing look at the psychology of evil.
Rebecca Dundon, Senior Vice President of Scripted Content at Fremantle, also shared: “We’ve been wanting to collaborate with Archery Pictures for some time, and when Kris presented this idea, we immediately recognized its potential as a successful, ongoing series based on a lesser-known character from the Sherlock Holmes universe.”
