Curious about which characters survive and perish in the much-awaited Superman film? It appears that DC has successfully rejuvenated their universe, leaving both fans and critics in awe. The James Gunn production is packed with events, and it includes some major scenes and impactful character deaths.
Here is a breakdown of all the deaths that happen during the runtime of the new Superman.
(Warning: Major spoilers ahead)
List of everyone who dies in Superman
In my perspective as a devoted fan, the first installment of the DC Universe (DCU) doesn’t feature an abundance of significant deaths for Superman, given that it’s a comic book adaptation and serves as the foundation of the broader shared universe. Yet, some poignant demises in this movie carry substantial weight beyond the scope of this film within the interconnected narrative.
The Kaiju
In the story, it’s Lex Luthor who unleashes the first Kaiju on Earth, which ultimately meets its end at Superman’s side, aided by the Justice League. The colossal creature appears indestructible at first, but Hawkgirl and Green Lantern focus their attacks on its eyes, while Mr. Terrific employs his T-spheres to bombard it from within, leading to its demise.
Mali aka Malik Ali
In simpler terms, Malik Ali is a street vendor who provides sustenance for Superman. He dies in the film, marking the second demise, and Lex Luthor transports Malik into a pocket dimension to force information out of Superman. Unfortunately, during a game of Russian Roulette, Luthor unintentionally takes Malik’s life.
President of Boravia, Vasil Ghurkos
In the movie’s narrative, I play the role of a supporter of the events unfolding, and one such event involves the demise of President Vasil Ghurkos of Boravia. This unfortunate incident occurs as Hawkgirl valiantly intervenes to halt Boravia’s aggressive advance towards Jaharanpur.
Ultraman
As a die-hard movie fan, I can’t help but ponder over the seemingly final fate of Ultraman. In the epic battle between Superman and Luthor, Ultraman was swallowed by a black hole within Luthor’s pocket universe. It sure looked like he met his end, but with DC comics, nothing is ever truly certain. Could it be that this clone’s story didn’t quite reach its conclusion there? Might we see the return of Ultraman in a future comic or movie? Only time will tell!
In Superman, these are all the instances where characters die. As the series progresses, it is expected that significant character deaths may occur more frequently among fans.
Superman is now playing in the theatres.
