Shonen Jump Celebrates Its Best New Series in New Look

It’s astonishing to think about, but it’s been almost a whole year since two popular series from Shonen Jump, “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “My Hero Academia,” concluded their runs. In their absence, a surprising new series, “Ichi the Witch” by Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki, has stepped into the limelight. Ever since its introduction, “Ichi the Witch” has been praised as the next big thing on Shonen Jump, along with “Kagurabachi.” Now, a year into its serialization, the series is finally receiving recognition, even gracing the cover of Shonen Jump for their anniversary.

In recognition of its one-year anniversary, the manga series “Ichi the Witch” is gracing the cover of Shonen Jump’s Issue 39. This series made its initial appearance on September 9th, 2025, and this cover art is merely the start of the celebrations planned. The cover image showcases Ichi, the main character, alongside his unwilling companion Desscaras, who is both stunningly beautiful yet quick-tempered. Both characters are depicted raising an index finger in celebration of the first anniversary. To make it even cuter, this anniversary has been given a special name, “ichiversary”, which cleverly combines with Ichi’s name and its Japanese meaning of “one”.

Ichi the Witch Takes Over Shonen Jump’s Cover for Its “Ichiversary”

Beyond the magazine cover, “Ichi the Witch” has also introduced a new fan poll and charming merchandise line. This collection encompasses various items such as clothing, stickers, cards, pins, and lots more. However, due to the current scope, most of these events are primarily held in Japan. But as the popularity of “Ichi the Witch” continues to expand globally, it’s quite possible that these celebrations will become accessible to fans worldwide.

It’s natural for fans to wonder if the popular series “Ichi the Witch” will receive its own anime adaptation. Although no leaks, rumors, or official announcements have been made yet, the success of another series called “Kagurabachi” getting an anime has sparked optimism among fans for “Ichi the Witch.” With four volumes already released and a fifth coming out in Japan on October 3rd, there’s plenty of material available for adaptation.

Osamu Nishi’s other notable work, titled “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun,” has not only made Shonen Champion famous but has also flourished into a popular and adored anime franchise, with a fourth season in the pipeline. Similarly promising is the series Ichi the Witch; now that it’s reached this significant achievement, here’s to hoping it soon takes flight as an anime too.

Ichi the Witch is available to read on Manga Plus and Viz Media.
