Thanks to hugely popular, long-running manga like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, Weekly Shonen Jump has become the best-selling manga magazine ever. Launched in 1968, the magazine has published countless successful manga series and short stories over the years. Despite major changes in trends, it remains incredibly popular even decades later. Nowadays, many series end after around 300 chapters, including popular titles like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen. Every year, Weekly Shonen Jump introduces new series, which also means some existing ones have to be cancelled to make space.
Typically, a manga magazine will wait about a year – until a series has between 40 and 60 chapters and at least two collected volumes – to decide if it’s successful enough to continue. However, sometimes promising series are canceled after only around 20 chapters if they don’t attract enough readers or get good reviews. Gonron Egg is one example; it will end on March 29, 2026, with its 21st chapter. While other series may also be canceled, the magazine is launching three new titles by well-known creators, including Hideaki Sorachi, who created Gintama.
Weekly Shonen Jump Will Debut Three New Series in April 2026

According to @WSJ_manga on X, a trusted source for Shonen Jump news, April is shaping up to be a huge month for new manga. The magazine will be releasing three new series every week! First up, on April 5th, Atsushi Nakamura’s Roku no Okashina le will launch. It’s a funny horror story about a boy who’s been cursed multiple times. Nakamura has been creating manga for nearly ten years and is known for several series and shorter works.
I’m looking forward to next week! On April 12th, Satosho Masayoshi is starting a new series called Natsu no Mushikago – it’s a basketball story that will be taking over the spot of Harukaze Mound, which unfortunately ended earlier this year. And then, on April 19th, we get to see something new from Hideaki Sorachi, the creator of the hugely popular Gintama! It’s exciting to have him back.
Hideaki Sorachi, the creator of Gintama, is back with a new fantasy comedy series called 2-Nen B-Gumi Yusha Destroyers. The story begins with the heroes defeating the demon king and forcing him out of his castle. Fans are excited for Sorachi’s return, and there’s even more news: his first one-shot manga, Dandelion, is getting an anime adaptation on Netflix this April, with extra scenes added! These titles are currently known by their Japanese names, but will receive official English titles when they’re released. You’ll be able to read both series on the Manga Plus app.
