This year saw the debut of Blue Proustian Moment, a highly praised but overlooked Girl’s Love manga by Emofuu. While the story and artwork were beautiful, it didn’t attract a large readership despite being released weekly. Unfortunately, the manga is ending soon as part of a larger trend of cancellations on Shueisha’s digital platform, Shonen Jump+. Dozens of series have been removed from the official app this year, and while many aren’t translated into English, Blue Proustian Moment was available on Manga Plus. According to the popular Shonen Jump news account @WSJ_manga on X (formerly Twitter), the final chapter, number 25, will be released on November 8th.
Even though the manga didn’t have a large audience, the news of its cancellation was upsetting for those who were following it, especially because the story showed so much promise. Many fans had anticipated this might happen, but it’s always disappointing when a good story ends too soon. This was Emofuu’s first time creating a serialized manga, after previously publishing only short stories. Ultimately, Shonen Jump+ decided the manga wasn’t gaining enough traction to continue.
What Is the Plot of Blue Proustian Moment?

This story takes place in a peaceful seaside town and focuses on two very different girls. Kazuki, the privileged daughter of a successful businessman, is a top student who loves her hometown – a place largely built by her father’s company. She enjoys walking home from school, taking in the calm surroundings. But her routine is disrupted when she meets Moeka, who arrives with her boyfriend on a noisy motorcycle. Kazuki is instantly put off by Moeka, yet finds herself strangely drawn to her, captivated by a fresh, citrusy scent.
Moeka and Kazuki reconnect after Moeka experiences a painful breakup. Kazuki attempts to comfort her, but finds herself increasingly attracted to Moeka’s advances. As they get to know each other, a connection forms, and they begin to develop feelings for one another. The story is both a tender romance and a thoughtful exploration of two women from different worlds navigating their emotions and the pressures of society as they build a real relationship.
