Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump is focusing on new, short-form stories (one-shots) starting this spring. This comes after a year of changes for the magazine, which has already cancelled four major series as of April 2026. With more changes likely, Shueisha is actively looking for its next big hit by developing these new one-shots.
I’ve been following what’s happening with Shonen Jump, and it looks like they’re gearing up for a big shift this year. A lot of new series are starting, and Shueisha is testing the waters with some one-shot stories. I saw on X (formerly Twitter) that @WSJ_manga spotted an announcement – they’re planning to release five new one-shots over the next five weeks, with the possibility of turning any of them into full-fledged serialized manga.
Shonen Jump to Release 5 New One-Shots for Spring 2026
Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is kicking off a series of five one-shot manga stories starting next week. These aren’t guaranteed to become full-length series, but they’re a way for new artists to showcase their ideas and potentially launch a hit. Shonen Jump has had success turning one-shot stories into popular, ongoing series before, and they’re hoping that happens with these new stories as well. Here’s what to expect:
- Tensai Harai Gakusha Raro Papuru no Hatsukoi by Yuta Kato
- Shangai Ryujin by Takahata Yuu
- Blood Marriage by Mori Tomohiro
- New Year Day no Kaibutsu by Miya Ayumu
- Tamura-ka Hyaku Monogatari by Amakaya Yumihiko
As of today, official English titles and release dates for these short stories haven’t been announced. However, it’s an exciting project to follow, as the next big hit from Shonen Jump could be hidden among them. Particularly if the author has a strong concept they can develop into a full series.
What’s Going on With Shonen Jump in 2026?
This year has been better for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, with only six series concluding so far. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and The Elusive Samurai both finished as planned, though with relatively short runs. Unfortunately, Hero Girl and the Demon Lord Call It Quits, The Mage Next Door, and Gonron Egg were cancelled after only about 20 chapters each.
Several ongoing series are heading towards their conclusions in the next few weeks. Both Blue Box and Sakamoto Days are currently in their final story arcs, and it looks like other popular titles like Hima-Ten! are also wrapping things up. Fans can expect more series to finish their runs soon, in addition to the cancellations that usually happen in the summer.
