Brian d’Arcy James, known for playing Shrek in the musical, recently shared that he tried out for a part in the animated series Hazbin Hotel but wasn’t selected. He explained that his audition didn’t quite fit what the show was looking for. Hazbin Hotel, which streams on Amazon Prime Video, already features other Broadway performers like Erika Henningsen and Jeremy Jordan.
Brian d’Arcy James says he’s ‘not up to snuff’ after revealing failed audition for Hazbin Hotel
Brian d’Arcy James recently told CBR that he actually auditioned for a role in Hazbin Hotel, which already has a number of Broadway performers in its cast. He jokingly lamented not getting the part, saying, “I auditioned and didn’t get it – guess I wasn’t good enough! That’s Hazbin Hotel for you.”
You can now watch the first two seasons of Hazbin Hotel on Amazon Prime Video. Season 1 originally aired from January 19 to February 2, 2024, with eight episodes. Season 2 followed, premiering on October 29, 2025, and finishing on November 19, 2025. The show’s popularity led to a spin-off series called Helluva Boss, which is set in the same world but features a new group of characters.
More Hazbin Hotel is on the way! Seasons 3 and 4 are currently being made. Although there aren’t firm release dates yet, the show’s creator, Vivienne Medrano, has given some hints. She says fans can expect to wait about as long for Season 3 as they did between Seasons 1 and 2. However, Season 4 might come out sooner, as both seasons were approved at the same time. Based on her statements, Season 3 could be released around 2027, and Season 4 in 2028.
We don’t yet know what will happen in Seasons 3 and 4. But according to Medrano, in an interview with Polygon, Season 3 will focus heavily on romance. She described it as a very emotional season with plenty of drama, tension, and unexpected twists – something she’s particularly excited about as a romance writer.
