The first trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall has been released during State of Play, giving us our initial glimpse of the town of St. Amelia and suggesting a disturbing story centered around the new character, Simon Ordell.
The game opens with Simon reflecting on how he ended up in this situation, then quickly introduces the impressive graphics and intense combat players would expect from a Silent Hill game. A key new feature is the CRTV – a portable television that will play a crucial role in your exploration of St. Amelia, according to writer and director Jon McKellan.
We’ve designed interactive retro interfaces and visuals before, and we wanted to bring that experience to the iconic handheld radio from Silent Hill. We reimagined it, creating the “CRTV” – a carefully made device that combines classic technology with new methods to produce the raw, realistic sound and video you hear and see throughout the game.
Besides discussing the CRTV, McKellan talked about how the game’s switch to a first-person perspective works well with the new hardware. This perspective will make it easier to follow your goals and be aware of dangers nearby. If enemies spot you, you can fight them using both close-combat and ranged weapons, or try to sneak past them altogether. Considering how scary the enemies looked in the trailer, choosing stealth might be a good idea – and we expect the enemies to become even more frightening.
McKellan also emphasized how the game will use the PS5’s DualSense controller. Its advanced features will enhance immersion, drawing players deeper into the game world. Silent Hill: Townfall is coming out later this year as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, and you can watch the reveal trailer below.
