Ryan Coogler, the director behind Black Panther, is set to return for the third movie in the series. He’s also generating Oscar buzz for his upcoming 2025 horror film, Sinners, and one of that film’s actors is interested in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther 3 faces the challenge of recasting the role of T’Challa following Chadwick Boseman’s passing, and there’s speculation about how Marvel will handle this – perhaps by introducing a T’Challa from an alternate reality after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. Expect more details and discussion about the future of the franchise over the next couple of years.
As casting speculation heats up, ComicBookMovie recently asked actor Delroy Lindo, known for his role in Sinners, about the possibility of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Black Panther 3, potentially working with director Ryan Coogler again. Lindo, 73, stated he’s told Coogler he’d be eager to appear in the film if the opportunity arose. Coogler responded that he would only offer Lindo a role that he felt was substantial enough for a veteran actor of his caliber.
Ryan Coogler Has Big Plans for Black Panther 3

Ryan Coogler appears to have exciting ideas for the next Black Panther movie. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ended with Shuri becoming the new Black Panther and M’Baku taking the throne of Wakanda. But there’s a possibility T’Challa will return in the third film – either as himself from another universe, or perhaps as his son, who would take on the Black Panther name. Whatever happens, big changes are in store.
The most significant news surrounding Black Panther 3 is the addition of Denzel Washington to the cast. He could be the biggest star to ever join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although many famous actors are part of the MCU, Washington’s impressive career – including two Academy Awards for Best Actor and numerous nominations – brings a unique level of recognition to the franchise. At 71 years old, he’s also reportedly enthusiastic about making his debut in a superhero film.
As a huge film fan, I’m really hoping Ryan Coogler takes home an Oscar this year – whether for directing or his film, Sinners. It would be fantastic for the buzz around the Black Panther sequel, especially since the first Black Panther is considered one of the best Marvel movies ever, and Wakanda Forever was such a powerful follow-up. Plus, an Oscar win could make it even more likely we’ll see Michael B. Jordan return in some capacity – he already had that cool cameo in Wakanda Forever as a spirit offering guidance to Shuri, and I’d love to see more of him in the universe Coogler is building.
Last November, director Ryan Coogler announced that he’s planning a third Black Panther movie and had just begun the development process. He also shared that Denzel Washington will be joining the cast. Currently, the film is expected to be released in 2028, potentially as one of the first movies in a refreshed Marvel Cinematic Universe following Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s still unclear which actors from previous films will return, or if someone like Delroy Lindo will be included.
