
Bethesda surprised everyone by releasing a new version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, called the Anniversary Edition, for the Nintendo Switch 2. It costs $60 to buy, but current Switch owners can upgrade for free and even carry over their saved games.
Even though the game was expected to run better, it’s still limited to 30 frames per second. Some players have noticed the resolution is now 1080p when played handheld (an improvement from 720p), but the game seems to have a lot of delay between when you press a button and when something happens on screen. One player on Reddit described the delay as being almost a full second.
One player commented that while Bethesda games aren’t usually known for running smoothly, the performance of this release was exceptionally bad. They’d actually prefer to play the original Switch version, which felt more responsive. Other players agreed, pointing out that the problems were similar to those experienced when the Anniversary Edition first launched on the Switch in 2017.
Because the game just came out, Bethesda hasn’t yet commented on this problem. We hope they fix it soon, but considering the issues players have been having with Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition on other systems, it might take a while. This could also be a bad sign for when the game comes to the Switch 2 next year. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
