The release date for the Prime Video drama “The Girlfriend” has been announced. This series featuring Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke will be available on the platform starting from Wednesday, September 10th.
The broadcaster has revealed initial glimpses and a fresh preview of the show, adapted from the same-titled novel by Michelle Frances.
In the introductory scene, we meet Cooke from House of the Dragon as Cherry, while Wright from House of Cards appears as Laura, who is the mother of Cherry’s new love interest. It quickly emerges that their relationship will be fraught with some uncomfortable dynamics, marked by underhanded actions on both sides.
There certainly looks to be no shortage of drama – you can watch the trailer in full below:
The logline for the series presents Laura as a woman who appears to have an enviable life with a successful profession, a devoted spouse, and her cherished child, Daniel.
However, the seemingly ideal life starts to fray when Daniel (Laurie Davidson) introduces Cherry, and she instantly suspects that things aren’t entirely normal.
Does Laura appear to be a cunning networker aiming for status, or is it her suspicious nature at play? Ultimately, the reality depends on one’s point of view.
Alongside Cooke, Wright, and Davidson, there are also parts in the six-episode series for Waleed Zuaiter (as Howard), Tanya Moodie (Isabella), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Brigitte), Karen Henthorn (Tracey), Anna Chancellor (Lilith), Leo Suter (Nicholas), and Francesca Corney (Millie).
