SNES Exclusive Game Getting Special New Release 34 Years Later

A unique game originally released for the Super Nintendo in Japan back in 1992 is getting a new release after 34 years. These days, it’s unusual for games to stay exclusive to Japan, mostly happening with mobile titles. However, it was very common in the 1990s for Japanese game developers to release games only in their home country for a variety of reasons.

If you weren’t in Japan during the 1990s, you likely never had the chance to play Psycho Dream, a platformer game made by Riot. Riot is no longer around, but in 2025, Edia, Shinyuden, and Ratalaika Games brought the game back. Now, in 2026, Limited Run Games is planning something new with it.

SNES Collector’s Item

Limited Run Games announced on X that pre-orders are now available for the SNES version of Psycho Dream on a physical cartridge. You can order until May 24th, and they expect to ship the game between January and March of 2027.

This special collector’s edition includes everything you need to play on a North American SNES: a game cartridge with enhanced visuals, a newly translated version of the game, a beautifully designed numbered box, a decorative slipcover, and a full-color instruction booklet.

If you’re hoping to get this retro collectible, be prepared to spend some money – Limited Run Games is selling it for $60, plus shipping costs.

The game received a mixed response when it was first released. Players take on the roles of two agents sent into the mind of a girl trapped in a bizarre, low-budget movie-like world to rescue her, facing the frightening creations of her subconscious. While the special edition costs $60, the game is quite short – only about an hour or two long. This makes the higher price tag feel a bit steep, as the game itself is available digitally for just $6, meaning you’re mostly paying for the special packaging and extras.
