Paramount has released a first look at Sonic the Hedgehog 4, confirming the return of two fan-favorite characters. The Sonic movies have steadily improved with each installment, and early news suggests the fourth film could be the strongest yet. The teaser offers a quick preview of the story, hinting at the reappearance of important characters, the Chaos Emeralds, and potentially even time travel.
The scenes after the credits of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 strongly hinted at the plot of the next movie. We saw Sonic battling a large group of Metal Sonics, and Amy Rose arriving to help him. Another scene suggested that Shadow the Hedgehog is still alive. These moments led fans to believe the fourth film will be based on Sonic CD, featuring Sonic and Amy working together against Robotnik and Metal Sonic.
Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, & Matt Berry Have Joined The Cast Of Sonic 4

Along with a sneak peek, the cast for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has been announced, and it includes some familiar faces. Most notably, Jim Carrey will be returning as Dr. Robotnik. He’s played the character – both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik – in all three previous Sonic movies. Since both versions of Robotnik appeared to die at the end of the last film, the new movie will need to explain his return. This has led fans to believe the story might involve time travel, which would be a simple way to bring the character back.
Plus, Keanu Reeves will reprise his role in Sonic 4. He first appeared in Sonic 3 as Shadow the Hedgehog, and his involvement was a major part of the movie’s promotion. Because he’s such a well-known actor, fans wondered if he’d return for another appearance after being featured so prominently in Sonic 3. Fortunately, it seems Shadow will be back to join Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy on their new adventure.
The cast just got a new member: Matt Berry! You might recognize him from shows like What We Do in the Shadows, The IT Crowd, and even A Minecraft Movie. This will be his first time working on a Sonic the Hedgehog project, so it’s currently unknown what role he’ll play. Berry is a seasoned voice actor – he’s done work on Krapopolis and The Wild Robot – so he could be voicing an animated character. Alternatively, he might play a live-action supporting role, much like Adam Pally’s character, Wade Whipple.
