Sony Allegedly “Exploring” the Revival of “Older, Unused IPs”, Says Insider

Sony has released some excellent exclusive games for the PS5, but many fans fondly remember older titles. Games like Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, and Gravity Rush were incredibly popular in the past, but haven’t been as prominent recently.

The publisher hasn’t forgotten about its classic games – the 2024 title Astro Bot includes plenty of references to the franchises that made PlayStation famous. Now, it seems they might be considering reviving some of those older games.

After VGC reported that Jordan Middler claimed something unusual was happening at PlayStation without Sucker Punch’s involvement, insider NateTheHate disagreed. He stated that while he hadn’t heard the same, Sony is indeed looking into bringing back some of its older game franchises that haven’t been used in a while.

The important thing to note is that Naughty Dog is “exploring” and “considering” new ideas, rather than actively working on or currently developing them. This makes sense, as they’ve been focused on The Last of Us and Uncharted, and their next new game, Intergalactic, isn’t expected until 2027. Meanwhile, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei was a critical and commercial success, selling 3.3 million copies in its first month, but support for its online co-op mode, Legends, has ended.

Insomniac, the team behind Marvel’s Wolverine, might also eventually release the long-awaited Marvel’s Venom. Sony has the option to license its Marvel properties to other game developers, similar to what Konami has done, but hasn’t confirmed any plans to do so yet.
