Just a few years ago, if you’d said Halo: Combat Evolved would be shown in a trailer for the PlayStation 5, we would have thought you were joking! It’s truly surprising to see.
And here it is – one of the fifteen games shown in the two-minute trailer we covered yesterday.
Sony is giving the Xbox game a prominent position alongside its own highly anticipated titles, such as Marvel’s Wolverine and Saros, signaling they expect a lot from the game’s release.
As a huge Halo fan, it’s pretty clear how important this game is to Xbox. Seriously, the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 basically lived on the success of Bungie’s first three Halo games. It really was their defining franchise – maybe still is!

Today, it’s quite possible that more copies of Halo: Combat Evolved will be sold on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox, particularly because the game is available through Xbox Game Pass on Microsoft consoles.
This highlights how quickly things change in the gaming industry. Just a year and a half ago, Xbox head Phil Spencer said only four of their exclusive games would ever appear on platforms other than Xbox.
Today, Microsoft’s three biggest gaming franchises – Forza, Gears of War, and Halo – are all available on PlayStation 5. What’s more, PlayStation is increasingly featuring these games in its marketing.
Soon, things like this won’t seem strange anymore. But right now, it’s still pretty shocking.
