Even a year later, it’s hard to believe how badly Concord failed. It was a massive flop, unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed – a truly unprecedented disaster.
Despite its flaws, this game wasn’t a complete disaster. While the characters and ideas weren’t particularly unique, it was a surprisingly smooth and playable experience. There are definitely worse games out there.
Honestly, it wasn’t a surprise when fans started trying to bring the game back online. It was just so sudden when the company shut down the servers less than a month after it came out – we all felt a bit abandoned, and a lot of us really wanted to keep playing, so we took matters into our own hands.
I was so excited to read on The Game Post this week that a group of fans actually managed to get the game working! They figured out how to make it start up, connect to a server, and even play a full match. It’s amazing what they’ve done!
It’s kinda funny, but even after the game shut down, the number of people still playing it (according to some reports) wasn’t that much lower than when everyone could access it. It’s wild to think people were still finding ways to jump in and play!
However, in a later update, the site reported that a company called MarkScan, which specializes in protecting digital assets, is now issuing copyright strikes against any video footage taken from the restored servers.
This is important because Sony often uses this process to remove content from the internet, like videos of modified game play. This situation clearly fits that pattern.
While Concord hasn’t yet taken legal action to stop hobbyists from studying its servers, the group seems to be slowing down their work now that they’ve gained some attention.
We know Sony probably wants to forget about this game, but we don’t see any real problem with it.
Since so few people were actually playing Concord when it was officially released, what’s the problem with a small group of dedicated fans running their own servers to keep it going?
