If you haven’t heard, Sony closed Bluepoint Games yesterday. They were the team responsible for fantastic remakes, including Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, a popular game when the PlayStation 5 first came out.
Fans are shocked and disappointed that the studio hasn’t released any games since being bought in 2021.
Many were surprised Bluepoint Games wasn’t chosen to lead the upcoming God of War Trilogy Remake, and Bloodborne fans hoped they might be working on a remake of their beloved PS4 game instead. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening either.
This incident reveals yet another instance of Sony taking legal action against a fan project inspired by the game Bloodborne.
After the studio Bluepoint Games shut down, Maxime Foulquier shared a legal notice he received from Sony’s lawyers. The notice demanded he stop developing his fan-made, top-down version of the game Bloodborne. Here’s a look at what his project entailed.
And here’s the letter:
So, I was reading about why Sony shut down my fan project, and someone named Foulquier thinks it’s because Bluepoint Games might actually be working on a Bloodborne remake! Basically, they probably didn’t want us making free content that could compete with their official version. Makes sense, I guess, even if it’s a bummer.
Sony is absolutely allowed to take this action, particularly since the game in question used the Bloodborne title. Also, the fact that Bluepoint Games closed doesn’t automatically rule out the possibility of a Bloodborne remake still being developed.
This situation has understandably upset fans, and those hoping for a Bloodborne sequel are feeling particularly discouraged.
Bit of a mess, all this, isn’t it?
