Sony’s Sending Messages to PS4 Players Encouraging Them to Upgrade to PS5

A new message being sent out to PS4 owners is encouraging them to upgrade to the PS5.

A PlayStation notification, originally sent in late January, was captured by a user named Sahil Shaw and has been widely shared online, as seen below.

It says:

Looking to play the latest games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, ARC Raiders, and Ghost of Yotei, or are you excited for upcoming titles like SAROS, 007 First Light, and Nioh 3? Now is the ideal time to upgrade to a new PS5 console.

The message includes a QR code that links to the official PlayStation website, where you can view prices and current offers.

As expected, the publisher highlighted games that are exclusive to the PlayStation 5. However, it’s good to keep in mind that some new games are still being released for the PlayStation 4 too.

A bigger challenge for PlayStation recently has been continuing to support online, always-updated games – like Fortnite and Roblox – that already work great on older PS4 consoles.

Sony and HoYoverse recently collaborated on a trailer promoting Genshin Impact. The trailer encourages players to upgrade to the PlayStation 5, as older PlayStation consoles will no longer support the game in the future.

With each new generation of gamers, it will be increasingly difficult for Sony to convince players to buy the latest PlayStation. This challenge will likely be even greater with the PS6, when it’s released.

While Sony seems content with keeping gamers using PlayStation products, they’re still actively trying to convince those with a PS4 to upgrade to a PS5.
