Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, has revealed she was among the few actors who felt satisfied with how her character’s story ended in the series.
The popular fantasy series, adapted from George RR Martin’s books, concluded with its eighth season in 2019. However, the ending wasn’t well-received by everyone, as many viewers felt that several characters’ stories and plotlines were left unfinished.
But speaking to The Direct, Turner said she was “very happy” with the fate of her character.
When asked if she’d consider returning as Sansa Stark in one of the upcoming “Game of Thrones” sequels George R.R. Martin mentioned, the actress jokingly said she’d need a compelling offer. She added that while it would be challenging, revisiting the role would also be fantastic.
She added that she was satisfied with how her character, Sansa, concluded her storyline in Game of Thrones, feeling that she received a better ending than most. Because of this, she’s hesitant to ever revisit the role.
However, she didn’t completely rule out a return, saying she would “have to see a script”.
She said it could be wonderful, or it could be a disappointing attempt to recapture something special from the past. She’d need to read the script to know for sure.

Although the original Game of Thrones series finished in 2018, the world it created continues to grow with new shows set in the same universe. The most popular of these is House of the Dragon, which first aired in 2022 and has already been renewed for seasons three and four.
Later this month, another prequel series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” will debut. It’s based on George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” stories.
Martin recently shared that they’re still developing several prequel stories, and are also exploring some ideas for sequels.
Besides “The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” and “House of the Dragon,” several other “Game of Thrones” spinoffs are being developed, and many of them take place in the past, before the events of the original series, according to an interview with the website Los siete reinos (also known as The Seven Kingdoms).
He added that he’s currently working on five or six different series, along with collaborators, and that some sequels are also in the works.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms debuts on Sky and NOW from 19 January 2026.
