I’m so excited! Regal is bringing back a bunch of amazing classic movies in January! They’re rereleasing films like the original Spider-Man from 2002, Christopher Nolan’s Following, and even the timeless Wizard of Oz from 1939, plus a whole lot more. It’s going to be a great month for movie fans!
Regal Cinemas is launching a new movie series called “Back to the Beginning” in January 2026. Throughout the month, they’ll be showing a selection of films that tell origin stories and highlight iconic firsts, celebrating the start of a new year.
According to Brooks LeBoeuf, a Senior Vice President at Regal, their ‘Back to the Beginning’ program showcases classic films featuring beloved characters and the early work of famous directors. The series highlights a variety of genres – from action and adventure to fantasy and crime – bringing these once-hidden gems and the filmmakers behind them back to movie theaters.
What movies besides Spider-Man and Following are being rereleased in January?
The first week of the program, called “Heroes Assemble,” features a lineup of classic action films. The schedule includes John Wick (2014) on January 1st, Spider-Man (2002) on January 2nd, Batman Begins (2005) on January 3rd, Superman (1978) on January 4th, Ghostbusters (1984) on January 5th, Mission: Impossible (1996) on January 6th, and Conan the Barbarian (1982) on January 7th.
The second week of screenings, called “There and Back Again,” features a lineup of adventure films. It starts with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) on January 8th, followed by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) on January 9th, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) on January 10th, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) on January 11th. The week continues with The Wizard of Oz (1939) on January 12th, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) on January 13th, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) on January 14th.
The third week of the series, titled “From the Director’s Chair – Day One,” will showcase films including Brick (2005) on January 15th, Reservoir Dogs (1992) on January 16th, Following (1998) on January 17th, The Sugarland Express (1974) on January 18th, Get Out (2017) on January 19th, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (1985) on January 20th, and Lady Bird (2017) on January 21st.
I’m so excited for week four, which they’re calling “Words in Chaos”! They’re showing some amazing films – starting with this year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga on January 22nd, then Gladiator from 2000 on the 23rd. It continues with Dune (2021) on the 24th, The Matrix from ’99 on the 25th, A Quiet Place from 2018 on the 26th, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes from 2023 on the 27th, and finishing up with the final cut of Blade Runner from 1982 on the 28th. It’s going to be an epic week!
The final week of the series, “Rise of the Mob,” will showcase several classic films. Viewers can watch “The Many Saints of Newark” (2021) on January 20th, followed by “Mean Streets” (1973) on January 30th, and “The Godfather Part II” (1974) on January 31st.
