The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature several villains from Spider-Man’s history appearing on screen, both new and returning. Though many will only appear briefly, some, like Michael Mando reprising his role as Scorpion and the introduction of Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, will become recurring threats to Peter Parker.
While we still don’t know all the villains who will appear, Sadie Sink is heavily speculated to be playing a villainous version of Jean Grey. Beyond that, rumors suggest another villain could appear, potentially leading to a storyline inspired by one of Spider-Man’s most debated tales.
Alex Perez, speaking about the upcoming film from Cosmic Circus, clarified that Miles Warren will be a villain, but as the Jackal persona, rather than as the scientist. Although Kraven the Hunter mentions Warren by name, this Spider-Man sequel would be Warren’s first time appearing in live-action within the franchise.

I’ve always found Miles Warren’s story fascinating. He started as a biochemistry professor at Empire State University, but became totally consumed by cloning. It’s funny – his villain costume is…well, let’s just say it doesn’t resemble a jackal at all! Instead of giving him another bizarre look – seriously, why the Grinch?! – I think it would be brilliant if they gave him the outfit Ben Reilly wore as Spider-Man. It just fits so much better, considering his Anubis mask and the whole theme of him resurrecting the dead. It’s a clever connection that really makes sense!
It’s unclear exactly how involved he’ll be in Brand New Day, but it doesn’t seem like it will be a simple cameo or a quick tribute on a comic book cover. Some fans believe Keith David will voice the character Warren, who appears in the trailer’s narration. The trailer also includes the line, “Spiders have three life cycles. When between cycles, it can leave the spider vulnerable to threats.”
Interestingly, a leaked trailer for Brand New Day featured many of the same lines, but spoken by a different actor. The trailer revealed the lines were part of an online video Peter was watching about spiders, suggesting they might not be connected to the character Warren at all.
This might have just been a deliberately released teaser, and it wouldn’t be surprising if a villain used an educational video connected to the story, like Olivia Octavius in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, who explained the multiverse to Miles Morales’ class.
Even with rumors about Warren appearing and Peter’s powers becoming unstable, it looks like the controversial ‘Clone Saga’ storyline might happen in the Spider-Man movies sooner rather than later, particularly since Tom Holland has expressed interest in it before.
How This Villain Leads to The Clone Saga
The 1990s saw a complicated Spider-Man storyline where a villain named Jackal tricked Peter Parker into thinking his entire life was a fabrication and that a clone, Ben Reilly, was the real Spider-Man. This became a famously long and drawn-out plot, stretching over 70 issues. However, Tom Holland has previously shared his appreciation for a much shorter and more successful retelling of the story by Brian Michael Bendis in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic series, which only spanned 9 issues.

Back in 2017, Tom Holland told the Brazilian website CinePop (as reported by Screenrant) that he’s a fan of the “Clone Saga” storyline in Spider-Man comics. He thought it would be exciting to see Spider-Man fight villains who have the same abilities as him, and he specifically mentioned Jessica Drew, a female clone of Peter Parker from the Ultimate Spider-Man series, as a good example.
I’m a big fan of the Clone Saga storyline. The idea of Spider-Man battling opponents with identical abilities is really exciting. I especially like Spider-Woman, or Spider-Girl as she’s sometimes known, who turns out to be one of his clones. The moment when they realize they’re both the same person – when they remove their masks and are shocked to discover they’re essentially looking at themselves, just a female version – is a really cool twist.
If Tom Holland gets his wish, we might finally see Jessica Drew as a live-action character, something that didn’t happen with Olivia Wilde’s previously planned project.
Later that year, Tom Holland told Cinema Blend he was excited about the possibility of adapting the story himself. He imagined being able to play seven different characters and loved the idea of featuring characters with powers similar to Spider-Man’s.
There’s a lot of potential for new stories with Spider-Man. I’d love to introduce villains we haven’t seen on screen before. The earlier films stuck very closely to the classic storylines, so there’s a huge amount of material left to explore. For example, ‘The Clone Saga’ would be amazing – I could play seven different roles, which is a bonus! I’m also interested in exploring the idea of villains with similar powers to Spider-Man, especially considering how cloning technology is developing. Imagine a villain wanting an army of super-powered clones, taking a sample from Spider-Man and trying to replicate him – and of course, things would inevitably go wrong!
It’s unclear if Warren is just a small-time bad guy or the main villain of Brand New Day, but his appearance in this next movie could significantly impact Spider-Man’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and even connect to Tom Holland’s expressed desire to have his character face off against himself.
