Most Spider-Man movies usually feature the hero battling a single villain, like Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Lizard, Vulture, or Mysterio. However, later movies in the series often include multiple enemies. The upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will be one of those with a larger number of villains.
Fans following news about the next Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe already know several new villains are coming. We even saw glimpses of characters like Boomerang and Tarantula in the recent trailer. However, Norman Osborn, also known as Green Goblin, won’t be appearing in the sequel.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature a lot of Marvel villains, but not the Green Goblin
Alex Perez, a reliable source connected to the upcoming Spider-Man movie, recently addressed fan questions on X (formerly Twitter) about whether Norman Osborn or Oscorp would appear. Sadly, he confirmed that neither character will be included in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home established that Oscorp and Harry Osborn, Norman Osborn’s son, don’t exist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although it wasn’t directly said that Norman Osborn himself is absent, the lack of Oscorp and Harry suggests that any version of him in the MCU would be very different from the character known in the comics.
There’s a lot of fan talk about Eman Esfandi’s character in ‘Brand New Day’ potentially being Harry Osborn, but it’s just a guess right now. Given Willem Dafoe’s iconic portrayal of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, Marvel and Sony don’t seem to be aiming for a similar performance – or at least, not immediately.
Rather than the Green Goblin unexpectedly being the big villain in another Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film, insider Perez hinted on X that the upcoming ‘Brand New Day’ story will have even bigger surprises. They clarified that Damage Control won’t be the primary antagonist, and a major villain will be revealed as the one funding characters like Scorpion.
Many believe Marvin Jones III’s character, Tombstone, will be the main villain in the upcoming ‘Brand New Day’ movie. While the first trailer highlighted characters like Scorpion, Damage Control, Peter Parker’s new abilities, and the Punisher, Tombstone wasn’t featured, suggesting a larger role for him.
The next Spider-Man movie, titled Brand New Day, will continue the story four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, it’s expected to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
