Spider-Man’s New MCU Sidekick in Brand New Day Revealed

There’s a new development regarding Liza Colón-Zayas’ role in the upcoming Marvel and Sony film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Filming, starring Tom Holland, is currently happening in the UK.

What do we know about Liza Colón-Zayas’s character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Daniel Richtman reports that actress Daniela Colón-Zayas will play a character named Cathy. Cathy is expected to be a supporting character, working alongside both Peter Parker/Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) and The Punisher (played by Jon Bernthal). It’s currently unclear whether Cathy is a brand new character created for the series, or if she’s based on someone from the Marvel comics.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the new Spider-Man movie, with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Zendaya, who won an Emmy for her role as MJ, and Jacob Batalon will both return. Joining them are Sadie Sink (known from Stranger Things), Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher, Michael Mando as Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III as Tombstone – who previously played the character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Mark Ruffalo, who famously played Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Avengers movies, will return for another appearance. There’s been talk that his Hulk character might revert to a more aggressive and dangerous form, known as the Savage Hulk, in the upcoming Spider-Man 4. The film is being produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad, and Louis D’Esposito.

The movie is set to arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
