It’s almost certain that Splatoon 4 will eventually be released, and Nintendo’s latest actions suggest it’s already in the works. Splatoon has become one of Nintendo’s most successful new franchises over the last ten years. Starting with the first Splatoon on Wii U, the series continued with Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 on Nintendo Switch. Because each game has been so well-received by both critics and players, many expected Splatoon 4 to be announced for the Switch 2. A recent update from Nintendo now appears to confirm those expectations.
This week, Nintendo announced it’s buying Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. The studio, formerly owned by Bandai Namco, will become part of Nintendo and will be renamed Nintendo Studios Singapore. The full purchase will happen in stages, starting with 80% on April 1, 2026. Nintendo will buy the remaining 20% after the studio’s operations are running smoothly.
What does Bandai Namco Studios Singapore’s involvement mean for the future of Splatoon? Bandai Namco has a history of assisting Nintendo with game development, having supported titles like New Pokemon Snap and Mario Sports: Superstars. Most recently, they collaborated on Splatoon 3, continuing their partnership with Nintendo.

It seems Nintendo acquired Bandai Namco Studios Singapore to strengthen its partnership with them, likely for the development of Splatoon 4. Given Nintendo’s satisfaction with the studio – demonstrated by the purchase – it’s reasonable to expect Nintendo Studios Singapore will play a significant role in the next Splatoon game. While they could work on other projects, Splatoon 4 appears to be the most probable focus for this newly acquired team.
With Splatoon 4 potentially in development, we might get an official announcement about the game sometime in 2026. It’s also likely that other upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives, like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, are also being planned for the new console.
