Split Fiction Developer’s Next Game in the Works, as Director Seemingly Teases 3 Main Characters

Okay, so Hazelight Studios – the team behind A Way Out and It Takes Two – just started working on their next game! Josef Fares, the founder, is saying it’s going to be even better than It Takes Two, which is a bold claim! They dropped a picture from the set showing actors in those motion-capture suits, but they’re being super secretive and hiding everyone’s faces. The studio itself just teased us with a message saying they’re ‘back in the kitchen, cookin’ up something really delicious!’ – I’m already hyped to see what they’re making!

The most striking thing about the image is the presence of three characters, hinting at the possibility of more than two playable characters. Hazelight’s previous games, A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Split Fiction, have all centered around two-player cooperative gameplay. This suggests they might be considering a three-player experience, which would be a bold move. However, it’s still too soon to know for certain.

It’s expected to do even better, particularly after the success of Split Fiction. The critically praised action-adventure game had sold four million copies by May 2025 and was nominated for four awards at The Game Awards. It also placed third for Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards.

Mio and Zoe, two writers working at Rader Publishing, discover a mysterious machine that makes their stories real, immersing them in virtual worlds. They soon find themselves swapping places within these stories, experiencing everything from science fiction to fantasy adventures together. The game is available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
